Newest ABC News/Ipsos pollingConducted from July 23 to 24 and released on Sunday, it showed that Biden’s underwater gun violence support rate was 37% supported and 61% did not support it.
Compared with the same survey conducted from March 26 to 27, the survey results show that the president’s approval rate for gun violence has fallen. The survey showed a support rate of 42% and a disapproval rate of 57%.
Attorney General Merrick Garland Thursday pledged to address the surge in gun violence in Chicago, New York, Washington, Los Angeles, and San Francisco by combating gun trafficking and providing additional funding for neighborhood intervention programs.

According to the Associated Press, the Justice Department recently dispatched combat troops to combat gun crimes and promote prosecutions across jurisdictions. The department said it has also stationed federal officials in local police departments across the country and organized a raid on fugitives to detain people with pending arrest warrants for violent crimes.
Garland and Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco met with officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) last week to discuss a comprehensive approach to combating the rise in violent crime.
“We all know that our job is to hunt down those who pull the trigger,” Monaco Say“Our job is of course to trace the source of these guns, the corridors they travel through, and the network that transports these guns to the places where they commit the most violent crimes. This is the purpose of this series of strike forces. Effort is everything.”
The Attorney General then traveled to his hometown of Chicago and visited a local police station and church group dedicated to preventing gun violence in the community. Garland called gun violence a tragedy and said, “I felt this especially in my hometown.”
Later, he held meetings with Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Police Chief David Brown to encourage law enforcement to work with community leaders to ensure the success of his federal strategy. “We cannot expect to solve this problem without both,” he said.
The Biden administration also prioritizes providing assistance to communities affected by violent crime, because shootings and homicides in many cities continue to rise after months of pandemic restrictions expired.
Experts believe that the rise in violent crime is still lower than in 2016, possibly due to personal financial distress and other concerns caused by the pandemic.
The poll selected 527 adults from the general population. The margin of error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.
