More than 295,000 pounds of raw beef products come from Greater Omaha Packaging They have been recalled because they may be contaminated with E. coli.
The affected beef was produced on July 13 and distributed to Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Nebraska for further processing.
Meat has the company number “EST 960A” in the USDA inspection mark.A complete list of recalled products can be found here.
E. coli was discovered during the routine sampling process of the Food Safety and Inspection Service Department of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Escherichia coli is a potentially deadly bacterium that can cause symptoms such as dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps. Symptoms can last for two to eight days after exposure. Most people will recover within a week, but some people will develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome.
Anyone who thinks they have symptoms of E. coli disease should seek medical attention immediately.
The Greater Omaha Packaging Company stated that it has not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions caused by the consumption of the affected raw beef.
