Even after a series of signings on the first day of the NBA free agent market in 2021, some of this year’s top players still have no contracts.
After rejecting the Los Angeles Clippers’ $36 million player option, Kawhi Leonard has yet to sign. As the subject of many rumors after signing first, DeMar DeRozan still remains on the market. With so many free agent point guards, Dennis Schroeder has yet to make a deal.
John Collins is the best restricted free agent. The forward has not yet reached an agreement with the Atlanta Hawks, nor has he signed an offer with another team.
Where will these players end up?
For Leonard, it’s probably a matter of time, not if he Re-signed with Los Angeles. The two-time NBA Finals MVP may choose to withdraw from his contract in order to sign a new contract in Los Angeles. Leonard can choose to sign a one-on-one contract, or get a $176 million worth of term A four-year maximum salary contract.
If Leonard seriously considered leaving Los Angeles, the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat could have become his players, but both teams have used up most of their cap space. Their move will make it difficult for any of them to acquire DeRozan, who has ties to New York and Miami.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Chicago Bulls are interested in signing DeRozan by signing with the San Antonio Spurs. Chicago has acquired Lonzo Ball through a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Los Angeles Lakers were seen as DeRozan’s first sign and then change candidate until they used Kyle Kuzma to reach a deal with Russell Westbrook.
The Westbrook trade means that Schroder will not get a big contract from the Lakers. If there is no clear landing point, Schroeder may regret his decision turn down The Lakers won a four-year, $84 million contract extension this season.
Shams Chalanya of the track team reported on Monday that Collins and the Eagles were not close to reaching an agreement. Atlanta can match any offer Collins gets on the open market.
