Living creatively is one of my favorite aspects of my work. I like brainstorming, observing trends, and collecting new information. I always look for inspiration and jot down ideas on napkins, receipts and post-it notes. Whether I am writing a blog post, sharing recipes with you on IG stories, editing a new video, or trying to create useful content, my brain is always the most important tool in the equation. This is true for everyone, whether your work is directly or indirectly creative.
However, no matter how much you love your work or how determined you are to create, occasional downturn or exhaustion is inevitable. From time to time, I encounter a creative obstacle, but I just feel that I can’t go any further. Sometimes it’s because of overwork, sometimes it’s random fatigue. When this happens, I learned that the best way is to overcome it. I used to sit in front of my computer for a few hours waiting for the spell to be lifted and the influx of inspo, but the truth is that this will make the burnout more intense and put you in danger of falling into a desperate whirlpool. There are several ways you can solve creative obstacles or prevent burnout altogether.
Go away
When there is no flow of ideas or you feel mentally exhausted, it is natural to feel that it is more suitable to appear and make yourself work, especially if you are an entrepreneur. Your brain goes into panic mode, such as “My livelihood depends on my ability to keep up with this speed, and I can’t seem to be able to concentrate as usual. “I get it. I have been there. Although it is tempting to try to turn on the power by using more coffee as a crutch, it will only delay your problem. Instead, allow yourself to take more frequent breaks at work, or even extend the breaks. The irony is that when you stop yourself and focus on other places, you are more likely to reset, recharge and continue your work with a fresher mindset.
Change your scene
Doing something new will help you get rid of your elements, so you can bring creativity back into the game. You must activate a new part of your brain to overcome burnout.
If you can, travel to a place you’ve never been before, even if it’s just a weekend, don’t bring your laptop. Changes in the scenery will allow you to accept new excitements and unfamiliar environments, which will force you to break away from the routine. Traveling can really open your mind and make you feel like a different version. If you can’t escape, please sign up for a new activity in your city-cooking or language classes, taekwondo, and start a mini-marathon training. Even just doing one new thing every week can cause some mental changes in the brain. Go to a classical concert in a new part of town, or volunteer in the library. Basically, if this sounds like something you will never do in a million years, then it might be perfect for helping you get out of trouble and feel alive again.
Get social
Spend some time offline and hang out with active people you admire. If you can, arrange lunch dates with other creative friends and spend time enjoying their company. Sometimes we are so obsessed with the trends of daily life that it is actually in our best interest to forget to unplug the power and talk to people. You know, like, face to face. Reduce the burden, turn your attention away from yourself, and enjoy good conversation and good company. We can learn a lot from the people around us, and sometimes we are too addicted to our lives without realizing it. Don’t walk into a restaurant, coffee shop or bar, expect your friends to solve all your problems. Just laugh. Spend more time with good people. Forget about your computer for now. This move can work miracles.
These are some of the strategies that have helped me the most in my life. Cheers to overcome creative obstacles and eliminate burnout! In any case, never forget why you started.
