“Respect” star Jennifer Hudson was so good at portraying the late Aretha Franklin that it made the staff of the upcoming biopic cry.
Liesl Tommy, the director of the project, was interviewed recently people Discuss a new movie about the Queen of Souls. In the interview, Tommy revealed that one thing made the crew members cry by the 39-year-old singer and actress Franklin.
“There are growing, hardened grips crying,” the helmsman said, recalling the moment when Hudson sang Franklin’s classics in front of them for the first time, the crew was emotional.
“I think this is part of the reason people work so hard [on the film]. They understand how much she put in and how hard Jennifer worked. In those days, she could sing, sing, sing, sing. This is shocking,” Tommy added.
Hudson also made public her portrayal of Franklin, who died of pancreatic cancer in 2018 at the age of 76.
“Even if I make tributes, I like people [I’m honoring] I can see how I think of them. They never really saw themselves. So it’s like,’How can I help you understand how we see you? ‘”she says.

“She is still with me, almost every day in a certain way. Sometimes, after watching a movie, and taking a photo with someone, I think,’Wow, I smile like Aretha. Or’This reaction More like Aretha,'” she told the media.
“Respect” is scheduled to be released on Thursday.Before the premiere, Hudson had already caused a sensation at the Oscars Biopic Trailer Released in May.
