This year marks the 50th anniversary of the launch of Lamborghini Countach. To celebrate, the company brought back this highly regarded model in a modern form and today launched the Countach LPI 800-4 at The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering.
The original Countach was a mid-engine sports car produced by Lamborghini from 1974 to 1990.
Lamborghini advertised the new model as having the appearance and power of a classic model. A large part of this equation is the widespread use of carbon fiber, which includes monocoque bodies and complete interior and exterior trims (rear panels, door panels, passages, and trunks). This gives the car excellent torsional stiffness.
The front splitter, front window surround, rearview mirror housing, hood air intake and door sill plates are also carbon fiber.
The dry weight of Countach LPI 800-4 is slightly higher than 3,500 pounds, so it has a better power-to-weight ratio than Sián FKP 37.
There are also some neat new technologies in the car. A movable vent was produced using 3D printing technology, and a photochromic roof that can be changed from solid to transparent at the touch of a button was installed.
The engine of this car comes directly from Sián. The 6.5-liter V12 engine is combined with Lamborghini’s hybrid supercapacitor technology. The car’s electric motor is powered by a super capacitor, which provides three times the power of a lithium-ion battery of the same weight. The result is a combination of more than 800 horsepower, which helps to get the car’s 800-4 name.
Lamborghini showed for the first time a model painted with Bianco Siderale paint. The color has a hint of blue and is intended to be reminiscent of Ferruccio Lamborghini’s own Countach LP 400 S. The interior is equipped with black and red leather.
The braking force of the Countach LPI 800-4 is provided by carbon ceramic brakes. The entire rig uses 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels, designed to follow the “phone” style of the 1980s and wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires.
This car has an 8.4-inch infotainment screen that allows Apple CarPlay connection. There is also a “Stile” button that allows car owners to discover the design story of their vehicle.
