Although 93% of the league’s players have been vaccinated, the NFL is considering mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for players to start the preseason game between the locker room and the front desk.
The chief medical officer of the alliance said: “I think our situation is much better than at this time last year, because we have a more comprehensive understanding of this virus and its spread, testing and identification.” Alan Sears.

NFLPA Chairman JC Tretter said @ESPNCleveland The NFL has never required mandatory vaccination. (In other words, the league may know that the union will never agree.) https://t.co/mV4LYM2TcN

“To be honest, I don’t know where the NFL comes from. We have been discussing mandatory vaccination with the players association since the beginning,” said the NFL general counsel Lawrence FerazzaniFerazzani added that the alliance “wants to see the authorization take effect tomorrow.”
NFL Assistant Executive Director of External Affairs George Atallah said in a written statement to the Washington Post that the union and player leadership “do not believe that mandatory vaccination is the best way.”
“We know that vaccines are effective, but we also know our strict procedures-when followed to be effective, we proved this last year,” Atra added.
In order for the vaccine authorization to take effect, it must be approved by the NFL Players Association. The NFL and NFLPA are arguing about the frequency of testing. The NFL recommends weekly testing, while NFLPA requires daily testing.
During the 2020 season, due to the outbreak of COVID, the NFL had to scramble to reschedule the game many times. However, if any NFL team has an outbreak and the game cannot be rescheduled, the outbreak team will be forced to give up, which may affect their chances of entering the playoffs.
Sills once said that NFL facilities are “the safest place in the community.” If society has the same vaccination rate, the pandemic will not be as severe as it is now. Sears said that from August 1 to last Saturday, there were 68 positive tests across the league. Players who have not been vaccinated are 7 times more likely to be infected with the virus than other players.
The NFL season is expected to begin on September 9, when the Dallas Cowboys will visit the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Throughout the season, all 30 stadiums are expected to be full.
