Embraer’s defense and security department has a lineup of first-class defense products and solutions, including multi-mission transport aircraft C-390 Millennium and A-29 Super Tucano light attack and training aircraft, as well as a wider range of air, land, and sea solutions Program, space and network fields.

In the past decade, the company has invested in a diversified product portfolio that includes a full range of integrated solutions and applications, such as command and control center (C4I), radar, and ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance).

As the defense arm of Embraer, the company’s influence in the global market continues to expand, with its products and solutions in more than 60 countries/regions.

Embraer is headquartered in Brazil and has a history of more than 50 years. It designs, develops and manufactures aircraft and systems and provides innovative solutions for the commercial, administrative, defense and security markets.

On the road to diversification, Embraer has acquired some companies, such as Atech, whose main expertise lies in the development of innovative solutions. Application areas include air traffic, command and control systems, instrumentation and control systems, and embedded systems and simulators. .

Atech is part of the Águas Azuis Consortium, a consortium consisting of thyssenkrupp Marine Systems and Embraer Defense & Security. The Brazilian Navy selected the consortium to build four surface ships in the Tamandaré-class frigate project.

Integrated system and network security

Embraer’s defense and security department also provides technical solutions for complex mission-critical systems in the fields of command and control, embedded systems, network security, instrumentation and control, simulation and public safety. These solutions use integrated systems for a wide range of applications, such as border monitoring and control, to ensure the protection of strategic structures and natural resources. This advanced technology generates accurate information for decision making.

In the field of sensors, Embraer provides equipment such as Sabre M-60, a 3-D low-altitude anti-aircraft radar that can simultaneously track up to 60 targets within a radius of 32 nautical miles and an altitude of 16,400 feet. The radar uses Doppler pulses Technology can achieve unique target detection and automatic aircraft classification. Due to low maintenance costs, it is a sturdy and flexible radar designed for transportation in any type of terrain, requiring only 3 operators to complete a 15-minute setup.

In the development strategy of related fields, Embraer Defense and Security Corporation believes that the global defense market has a growing demand for cyber security solutions. Therefore, Embraer acquired Tempest Security Intelligence, Brazil’s largest cyber security company.

Tempest positions itself as a provider of complete solutions for business protection in the digital world. By investing in Tempest, Embraer seeks to enhance the company’s growth and expansion prospects in Brazil and abroad.

Powerful presence in the sky

While diversifying investments, the company continues to develop the most advanced aircraft, such as the new generation of multi-mission transport aircraft C-390 Millennium, which brings unparalleled maneuverability, rapid reconfiguration, high availability and higher flight safety. These are all on a unique platform.

The C-390 was designated KC-390 in its air-to-air refueling (AAR) configuration and has been fully operational in the Brazilian Air Force. Since receiving the first aircraft in 2019, the Brazilian Air Force has deployed the KC-390 in a number of key missions in Brazil and abroad, thereby expanding the scope of the mission. In August 2020, the plane flew to Lebanon, carrying medical supplies, food and sanitary equipment in response to the devastating explosion that destroyed the port of Beirut.

In addition to the Brazilian Air Force, the Hungarian Defense Forces also signed the C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft in an air-to-air refueling (AAR) configuration, KC-390. This is the second contract signed by the Portuguese Air Force with the European NATO countries after selecting the aircraft in 2019. Delivery between the two countries is scheduled to start in 2023.

In addition, the A-29 super toucan, light attack aircraft, surveillance aircraft, and advanced training aircraft still represent the gold standard in this field. It is a combat-proven platform that has been selected by more than 15 air forces around the world, including the United States Air Force (USAF).

Embraer’s defense department’s footprint in the Asia-Pacific region is expanding, with 6 Super Tucano aircraft delivered to the Philippine Air Force (PAF) in October 2020. This aircraft is used for close air support, light attack, surveillance, air-to-air interception, counter-insurgency missions, and advanced training as part of PAF’s ongoing modernization program. The addition of these close air support aircraft will elevate the air power capability of the Pakistan Air Force to a whole new level.

Looking to the future, based on the best-selling Pilot 600 business jet, Embraer also sees related sales opportunities for P600 AEW&C in specific markets.

By investing in a diversified portfolio of defense and security businesses, and with innovative solutions, Embraer is ready to better meet the needs of the global defense market that far exceeds aircraft.
