Liu Simu, who plays Shangzhi, was born in China and immigrated to Canada since childhood, obtained a business degree, and worked as an accountant before being laid off. Subsequently, he set his sights on acting career.
Awkwafina plays Hisashi’s best friend (and possibly more) Katie. She is half Chinese and half Korean in Queens, New York, studying classical music and jazz, and then becoming famous through rap on various private body parts.
These two actors may seem strange. But it doesn’t matter, because their two characters seem to be a strange pairing, and as the newest member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the entire movie is staggering on unmatched segments. It is currently broadcast in local theaters, and the final result could have been more powerful by better integrating comedy and action, as well as the deep sorrowful motives that promote the development of the plot. It has achieved sufficient success in terms of the persistence of the roles and themes.
The character of Shangqi dates back to the end of 1973, created by writer Steve Engelhardt and artist Jim Starling for Marvel, both of whom are white. This movie is largely due to the head of its studio, who put Asian faces in front of and behind the camera. The half-Japanese director Destin Daniel Creston is in charge of the project, and he co-written the script with Chinese Americans Daniel Callaham and Andrew Lanham .
The movie starts with some background stories, telling the background story of Xu Wenwu (played by Tony Leung). He fell so deeply in love with a charming female warrior Li Ying (played by Chen Fala) that they all agreed to give up magic and raise children. However, this story may or may not be a fable Yingli told her children.
Today’s narrative is based on Hisashi and Katie stopping for a living. Katie endured her nagging family, who insisted that she should make herself better. Shangzhi, who is Americanized by the nickname “Sean”, is reluctant to talk about his family.
They could have continued to live happily, earning just enough money for rent, food, wine, and their beloved karaoke, if it weren’t for this supernatural world full of warriors, monsters, mythical creatures, and even fast-talking civil and military impostors ( Sir Ben Kingsley, one of the better comedies in the movie). Soon, Xiao En became Shangzhi again, looking for his estranged sister Xu Xialing (newcomer Zhang Meng’er, in a dynamic change, she should make herself a star). Michelle Yeoh also appeared, lending her quiet power, dignity and fighting ribs to Tang.
Think of it as an integral part of it, and it works well overall. I laughed when it was time to laugh, thought when it was time to think, and got confused on some sad points. Liu and Awkwafina share a common chemical reaction that pushes them to complete their actions, but makes them vulnerable and credible in quieter and more interesting moments.
Liang’s task is to play a tough, confident and ruthless performance, and then be completely eliminated by the weaknesses he has never seen before. He responds to these changes with the ease and depth of an old professional player.
However, another trip through the word processor may help the overall structure. A lot of interesting things pile up, and then suddenly change their actions. After about 20 minutes of all-in, it’s time to get serious. There are no deal breakers in this vortex, but more smoothing and blending may help.
Ten Rings itself made its debut in the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, “Iron Man” in 2008. “Iron Man 3”, released in 2013, found that Kingsley played a counterfeit version of Wenwu (although Kingsley is strange and half-Indian). The effects of these pastimes are not bad, but how satisfying it is to see the complete narrative with confidence, authority and authenticity of the Asian face.
