The outbreak of the pandemic has made most people in the world have neglected for some time: the need for climate control and environmental action! Fortunately, as the focus shifts to incremental sustainability, people are becoming more aware of how plantations can play an important role in promoting our well-being. As my consciousness increased, I found myself more curious about the environment. I am very happy to explore those places that have made greater commitments to sustainable development, and have a stronger belief that personal choice can have an impact on the natural environment. Waghai Botanical Garden is the largest botanical garden in Gujarat. It shares the same values and is celebrated every day like Earth Day.

About 2 kilometers away from Wagga is this lush biodiversity conservation center, which introduces a wide variety of local and exotic plant specimens to people. WBG is open from 8 am to 6 pm and can be visited free of charge. During my one and a half hour visit to WBG, walking on a nature trail taught me to classify plants and their use in food and medicine; in short, about our dependence on them . This natural study travels to and from Wansda Park. Your guide will welcome you and introduce you to every corner of your visit. You will not find a guide-rely on the signs and written information around the center.

Three arched doors shaped like curved trees mark the entrance to this huge botanical garden. Three arched doors shaped like curved trees mark the entrance to this huge botanical garden. The three arches are painted hickory brown, dotted with synthetic leaves, crowned with crowns, and the yellow sign mentions Wanapati Udian of Waghai. When you step out of the gate, the surrounding scenery will greet your eyes.

Continue walking, the walls are covered with plants, the bamboo plant stands on both sides, the photographer preparing to shoot, and the British red train running on the original site will be warmly welcomed.

But the real adventure begins as soon as “I’m in Wagai Botanical Garden”, showing the charm of its nature reserve. Our guide took over from here! The first suggestion from my guide is to download the Floral safari app, which provides accurate scientific details of every plant present here. It is an Android-based program specifically designed for the trees in the Wagai Botanical Garden. Considering that there are nearly 270 trees, 119 types of medicinal plants, 89 types of cacti, 82 types of ornamental plants, 50 types of shrubs, 29 types of fruit shrubs, and 28 types of tuber succulents in this garden, this application is a must.
Cactus House – 89 species of cactus
![]()
The tour starts with cacti, which is one of the most underrated plants in the cactus family. Cactus is a unique hot climate plant, there are many types, each with a unique appearance. Unlike other plants, cacti need very little water to grow and survive, which is why cacti are commonly found in the desert. The cactus stores the water it receives, which allows it to survive droughts. Surprisingly, all cacti are succulents, but this does not mean that all succulents are cacti.

You see, cacti have areolas, which are a small cushioning shape with hair, thorns and branches that define their family. Succulents without areolas are not cacti. While observing the cactus house in Waghai Botanical Garden, I also learned that bats, birds and insects can inseminate the flowers of these plants. In this picture, you can observe 89 different types of cacti.
Arojavan
![]()
In the Waghai Botanical Garden, Arogyavan is its “largest” green space. It is attributed to Ayurveda, an ancient medical system that originated in India. Over time, Ayurvedic science (alternative medicine) has made great contributions to modern medicine, and modern medicine is now widely accepted worldwide. In this episode, you will find more than 200 different types of shrubs, herbs, and trees, each with a sign that provides information about its disease. Your guide will detail every attribute of the plant you see here.
Dang Plot
![]()
This episode introduced me to some endemic species from the Dang forest area. Simply put, Dang means bamboo, which is a typical representative of Purna Wildlife Sanctuary and Vansda National Park in Dang District in the eastern mountainous area of Gujarat. According to the climate, soil, geology and natural vegetation, the local area is further divided into sham and sham. However, this particular plot reflects 400 plant species from the Dang forest area.
Bamboo plot

They said that India is the second richest country in the field of bamboo biogenetics, with unprecedented social and economic influence. The bamboo garden of the Waghai Botanical Garden is a representative of these genetic resources. Of the 136 species and 22 genera in India, 19 species are native, and the land is characterized by 21 species of all bamboos. Here, you can study a collection of fast-growing perennials belonging to the grass family. Some of these species are regional, confined to the local area, and are widely used by villagers in southern Gujarat as a means of earning a living.
Evergreen plot
![]()
The evergreen plots of the Waghai Botanical Garden reflect the forests of southern and northeastern India, where the trees have important commercial significance. Some of these trees are Dalbergia latifolia (Indian rosewood), Tectona grandis (teak), Pterocarpus marsupium (Malabar kino), and Terminalia Crenulata, often referred to as Indian laurel. These evergreen forests are home to 2,100 species of birds, 350 species of mammals, 350 species of reptiles, and countless insects. The evergreen plot of Waghai Botanical Garden displays more than 328 species of plants, including pine cones, Hopea ponga, Duabanga Grandiflora, Tetramalous Nudiflora, etc.
Palm plot
![]()
The use of palm trees is as old as human cultivation and is mentioned in several Bibles and Islamic books. In the Palm plot of WBG, I was greeted by more than 20 species of Arecaaceae. These tropical plants are widely grown in subtropical climates and are characterized by their thick flowing leaves showing various styles. In India (and worldwide), palm trees enjoy an outstanding commercial reputation, most of which are derived from coconut products such as palm wood, oil, wax and rattan.
Tuber diagram

The tuber plot contains more than 40 plant species, and the layout has been expanded because some plant species use these expansion areas as a reservoir of nutrients during winter or dry months. Some plants also use these nutrients for regeneration and reproduction. Potatoes and yams are some common tubers. Roots include ginger, turmeric, sweet potato, dahlia and cassava.
PragVad Ancient Tree
PragVad (Ficus Microcarpa) is one of the oldest trees that originated in India. PragVad is also known as the Chinese Banyan Tree or Indian Laurel Tree, “usually found in high-altitude mountainous areas. According to Indian mythology, this tree is named after its connection with Lord Shiva: Lord Shiva was found sitting by St. Ghana Sam Bandar Under the tree. Therefore, many people consider it to be the sacred tree of immortality, where people can seek the supreme knowledge of truth from God.

I learned from the tour guide that PragVad is also the tree that Brahma bestows on Brahma. It is absorbed by its roots and continues to penetrate the sacred resonance of the soil and climate. Therefore, if you sit under Pragvad, you are entitled to Brahmgyan! As for medicinal use, it is well known that its bark juice can treat ulcers, liver diseases and leprosy.

The Waghai Botanical Garden also has a beautiful lake, as well as fruit, orchids and taxonomic plots.
