Viral videos circulating online continue to show fans’ views on the Astroworld tragedy that took the lives of eight people last week.
On Friday, rapper Travis Scott performed at the Astroworld Music Festival in Texas.
The performance resulted in the death of eight fans, and many people were hospitalized due to a surge in crowds that saw fans squeeze and obstruct each other.
Houston officials are investigating what went wrong and possible measures, because fans will share their side of the night on social media, including their warnings to staff.
TikTok user @cpvris_ posted a video in the crowd yesterday, which was sent to her by her girlfriend. The video has been viewed 26 million times after being uploaded twice, because there are records showing the crowd yelling “stop the show” in Scott.
When Scott stood on the stage platform, preparing to perform his next song, the crowd-obviously uncomfortable and pushing each other-chanted “Stop the show.”
A fan can be heard yelling: “That person died like five songs before, still on the ground.”
It is not clear from the video whether Scott can hear the chanting. Although the sound can be heard loudly from the position of the camera, Scott seems to be unresponsive.
This video is just one of many shocking scenes from Astroworld shown on social media. A viral video showed a fan climbed onto the camera platform, screaming “a person just died there,” but was ignored and told to get down.
The woman, identified online as Seanna Faith McCarty, was photographed climbing the ladder to the platform and pointed out the death toll in the crowd to the photographer who recorded the live event.
McCarty issued a statement saying Instagram, Describes the human “collapsed tower” in the crowd and the “layers of people” on the floor.
“He didn’t even look in that direction, so I pushed the camera to point it to where I just came. He was angry. He called someone. I told him the same thing. People are dying and we need to stop Music, we need help, we need to pay attention to the masses, because I think if only these people realize, maybe they will do something,” she claimed in the statement.
“The other person grabbed my arm and told me that if I didn’t get down, he would push me off a 15-foot platform without sides. I told him to help. I told him people were dying. I told him where he was. Don’t look in that direction. I can’t believe it. Two people can actually do something. Have the ability to do something. Cut off the camera, call a backup, pause something. They didn’t do anything.”
At some point during his performance, Scott did pause the music after spotting a fan in need. “Wait, wait. Someone passed out here. Don’t touch him, don’t touch him,” he said. “Someone jump in, hurry up. Hurry up, security, let’s go in.”
Rapper’s partner Kylie Jenner claimed that she Social media statement Neither she nor Scott realized death until the end of the performance.
She wrote: “I want to make it clear that until the news comes out after the show, we don’t know anyone has died, and no one will continue filming or performing.”
Since the event, Scott and the festival organizers Live Nation and ScoreMore have received multiple lawsuits from concert audiences against them.
According to the bulletin board, a lawsuit cited a “predictable and preventable tragedy” and claimed that it was the result of a “profit motive at the expense of the health and safety of the audience.”
Harris County Judge Lina Hildago called for an “objective and independent” investigation that night. “Maybe the plan was not sufficient. Maybe the plan was good, but it was not followed,” she said.
