A viral video showing a baggage handler loading an airplane surprised TikTokers.
The clip was posted to a social media application by Deeej (@djsugue) on November 2nd, and he wrote: “Stacking bags 101.” The post has received more than 14 million views and more than 1.5 million comments.
“how [sic] The 100 bags look like they are on the belly of the airplane,” the text of the video is superimposed on the display.
At the beginning of the video, the baggage handler-probably Deeej-enters the aircraft’s landing gear with the conveyor belt. Before the luggage started rolling onto the plane, the porter briefly stretched out.
Once the first suitcase enters the landing gear, the porter starts stacking luggage. He seems to pack the landing gear as much as possible, using smaller bags, backpacks or garbage bags to fill any gaps.
One commenter described this process as “Tetris in real life.”
Once everything is installed and almost every inch of space is filled, the operator will pick up the phone and leave the plane.
Weekly newspaper Deeej has been contacted for comments.
The method used in the video seems to be an example of “loose loading”. In an interview with the Huffington Post in 2015A Delta representative explained that “loose loading” is a method of loading luggage individually, rather than in groups of larger “cans”.
“In this case, when you check in your luggage, it tends to enter the storage area. About 45 minutes before departure, the luggage is delivered to the plane and then loaded,” the Huffington Post reported.
Many commenters of the video were shocked by this video.
“It’s not that I think the bag will get where you are going,” Kelsey said. “Don’t know why I never considered this? Lmao.”
“Damn it, you mean someone did this, but they didn’t get into the plane right away?” AZ asked.
“I don’t know what I thought happened, but it is not the case,” Courtney Jade added.
One commenter suggested that passengers who checked their luggage last would pick up their luggage first.
“Tip to yourself: The later you come, the faster you can get your bags,” Yung Killa 32 said.
However, according to the aforementioned HuffPost article, this commonly held belief is not necessarily correct.
If passengers are flying in bulk, the time it takes for them to receive their luggage “completely depends on how the luggage is stored while waiting for the plane.”
“If the luggage is checked early, it may be behind the storage area, which means it will be the last on the plane, or it may be the first to take off. But in the end, I don’t know how the luggage will be arranged and loaded,” Huffington The post said.
Many other commenters used this video as an opportunity to express their gratitude to Deeej and other airline staff.
