Steve Hobbs
Governor Jay Insley appointed Steve Hobbs as Secretary of State in Washington on November 10, replacing Kim Wyman, who is currently vacant in the Biden administration.
As an Asian American, Hobbs will be the first person of color to take on this role.
In the video announcement (as of press time, Insley is attending COP 26, the World Climate Change Conference in Scotland), Insley said: “Steve is a dedicated civil servant. From his work in the Army and National Guard From a work perspective, he has a strong view of national security. As election systems across the country continue to face threats, his knowledge of cybersecurity will be critical.” Insley added: “The important thing is that Steve has already Demonstrate political independence. This is crucial in this period of political polarization and mistrust. He is a moderate person who works effectively with people of various political views. He is not afraid to challenge the Democrats and Republicans. Stie The husband has always been committed to protecting democracy and will continue to pursue the noble pursuit of being Secretary of State.”
The Secretary of State of Washington maintains the integrity of the elections in Washington State; protects important government records, documents, publications, and procedures; provides business and the public with easy access to information about companies and charities; and conducts public outreach to improve citizens’ knowledge and Participation.
Hobbes is of white and Japanese descent, grew up in Snohomish County, ran for Congress in 2012, and ran for deputy governor in 2016. Since 2007, he has represented the 44th legislative district of the State Senate. He currently serves as a lieutenant colonel in the National Guard in Washington.
Hobbs thanked Insley for his “full confidence and trust in me in fulfilling the duties of this office. Nothing is more sacred than the right to vote. I am fighting for this right overseas and will do my best to protect it in Washington. One right.”
Hobbs holds a master’s and bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington. He recently completed the National Defense Information Institute through the US Department of Defense and provided additional training to officers from the US Army Command and General Staff College.
Insley’s appointment to Hobbs took effect on November 22. Special elections across the state will be held in November 2022 to complete the last two years of the Secretary of State.
Snohomish County will replace Hobbes’ current Senate seat.
