United Nations claims $6.6B to fight world hunger

David Beasley, Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) released a plan This week, in response to Tesla CEO and Space X founder Elon Musk’s question on how to spend money to alleviate world hunger.

The plan was released three weeks after Beasley called on world billionaires to contribute a portion of their wealth in an interview with CNN to help alleviate the effects of world hunger. After seeing the interview, Musk said on Twitter that if the United Nations plan can explain how the money will be distributed, he will sell his shares in Tesla.

“If the World Food Program can accurately describe on this Twitter post how $6B will solve the world hunger problem, I will immediately sell Tesla shares and do so,” Musk Tweet then.

In response, Beasley shared on Monday that the plan involves $6.6 billion in expenditures, which can feed 42 million hungry people and avoid disasters.United Nations Plan Previously clarified This money will not eliminate world hunger, but it can provide these people with one meal a day for a period of time.

The World Food Program estimates that 282.7 million people in 80 countries suffer from severe hunger, an increase of approximately 110% compared to 2019. The climate crisis, global conflict and the economic pressure of COVID-19 have led to an increase in hunger.

Of the proposed funding of US$6.6 billion, US$3.5 billion will be used to purchase food and finance the transportation of the food by air, river or truck. US$700 million will be used to create food stamp programs in 43 countries where these programs do not exist. US$2 billion will be used for cash and food stamps for existing projects. US$400 million will be used to strengthen the logistics of the global supply chain and create a monitoring system that can track global hunger.

“This hunger crisis is urgent, unprecedented, and avoidable. @elonmusk, You ask for a clear plan and open the book. here it is! We are ready to talk to you and anyone else who is serious about saving lives. The asking price is $6.6B to avoid famine in 2022,” Beasley Tweet.

As of press time, Musk has not publicly responded to Beasley’s plan.
