How to evaluate the website quality of link building


How to evaluate the “quality” of a website is one of the most misunderstood concepts in SEO.

Getting it wrong may cause you to exclude sites that can improve your rankings, or worse, include sites that don’t provide any value or that may cause you to be punished.

Google attaches great importance to link building

There are many different aspects of link building, from strategy to analysis and reporting.

We focus on evaluating the link building website for this webinar, which is usually a very misunderstood topic. Let’s start with some quick background.

this Google Penguin Update Launched in 2012. Part of its goal is to promote high-quality websites and to marginalize those who are engaged in manipulating link schemes and keyword stuffing on search engine results pages (SERPs).

Sources of information for evaluating website quality

Google provides a lot of information to guide you through linking. You can view:

  1. Google link scheme.
  2. Google scoring guidelines.
  3. John Mueller.

However, you may need to have reservations about this and test what works for your business.

There are some SEO professionals who do not follow 100% of what Google says in link building (ie, they disagree with Google’s practice of not following outbound links for all guest posts), but still see significant results.

A poll by Aria shows which indicators are relevant for SEO professionals and digital marketers in assessing the health of a website.

Although you can evaluate the quality of a website based on these metrics, there are still many different variables to consider, including content, content value, and readability, which are more important than the link profile or the amount of content on the website.

When evaluating a website on a quality scale, it all boils down to three key areas:

  • Purpose.
  • Content depth.
  • A reliable source.

Key elements of site assessment

Review the content from the user’s perspective and make sure to check the following key elements when evaluating the link building of the website:

  1. content: Written and visual content of blogs, main website content, etc.
    • Commercial links: links to money pages that are not marked as nofollow or sponsors.
    • Navigation: Too general for blogs.
    • Prohibited keywords: gambling, pornography, payday loans.
    • Frequency: Infrequent or stale posts.
  1. administrative: Do they have advertisements and what are their policies?
    • About us: a link to the money page.
    • Management page: advertisements, guest posts.
    • Information: phone number, address, email.
  1. Link introduction: What is the link to the site?
    • Too many links: Too many links to a page.
    • Low authority: use DA or DR.
    • Non-related links: Links have no meaning to the page.
  1. author: Who is responsible for the main content and supporting content?
    • Name and signature: set as the administrator or site name.
    • Author page: Information about the author.
    • Abroad: The author is from the target country.
  1. reputation: Does authorship matter?
    • Existence: There is a sense of existence.
    • The following: individuals, micro-influencers, influencers, news.
    • Participation: the existence of participation.
  1. Technical: How do users find and interact with content/sites?
    • Indexed: Exists in the index, more than the homepage.
    • Geo: The country where the audience’s focus is located.
    • Page participation: advertising, layout, links.

Case study: B2C e-commerce

Evaluate whether these key elements contribute to successful link establishment?

It is true. In this case study, Rowe’s team investigated the same important elements and increased the number of sessions on a site to more than 304,000 per month, an increase of more than 1,000%.

After they started to build links, they created more than 680 links to the domain on multiple pages.

A proper website evaluation will help you evaluate whether the quality meets your needs, and the activity can be very effective in bringing more organic traffic to your website.
