A Tennessee dog was hailed as a hero by neighbors after protecting his community from a fugitive armed criminal.
Golden Labrador Gus noticed and approached the intruder in his Brentwood backyard, but was shot in the head by the man. The gunfire alarmed the neighbors, who quickly called the police.
“An intruder who broke into the neighborhood started to walk this way. Gus saw him and took off and said no today. When he approached the man, he shot him in the head,” his mother Jess Dixon told Fox17 .

Within an hour, the police detained the man, and it turned out that he was a felon who was sentenced to probation, and Gus was preparing to undergo emergency surgery at the veterinarian. Dixon said: “They ran out with a stretcher, he jumped out of the car and walked in by himself.”
The Brentwood community celebrated Gus’s bravery, and the Brentwood police even listed him as an honorable dog breed, which included a medal and badge. “Gus got this because of his bravery and loyalty to protect others,” the daughter of the Dixon family, Sydney, told Fox17. “His current nickname is Super Dog. So he is a nearby Superman.”
The neighbors protected by Gus also thanked the Labrador for hosting his 2nd birthday party. Neighbor Alex Hunt said: “I just stopped to think about how lucky we were that day, where Gus stepped in and became a hero.”
“We don’t want our children to be scared and traumatized. So, we decided to tell them the truth as little as possible. We knew that there was a bad guy nearby. Gus recognized him as a bad guy. He tried to help catch him. The individual shot and killed him, but because of Gus, the police were able to catch him and he was in jail. We don’t have to worry about him anymore,” Dixon said.
