Winning Powerball requires defeating extremely unlikely odds. A lottery player in Arizona defeated these odds, but did not receive a prize worth $1 million.
The $1 million Powerball lottery ticket was purchased in Scottsdale, a suburb of Phoenix on May 21 and expires on Thursday.
What about the money?
Republic of Arizona cited The Arizona Lottery Company confirmed that the prize money will be distributed in accordance with state regulations, “Slightly more than 50% of the money will be used for new promotion and gaming funds”, “about one-third of which will be used to go to the court designation of the Supreme Court of Arizona The Special Defender Plan for the People’s Republic of China.” The remaining funds will be used for various social undertakings.
Arizona’s overdue bonus is not the first time that lottery players have failed to cash in on the two major lotteries of Powerball or Mega Millions.
Sometimes the jackpot far exceeds $1 million. In 2011, the $77.1 million winning lottery ticket purchased in Georgia was unclaimed, while the $63 million winning ticket purchased in California was unclaimed in 2016.
The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 and 292 million, while the odds of super million are 1 in 302.6 million.
The time for winners to receive their prizes varies from state to state.
