A new group of environmental campaigners have deflated SUVs in UK cities as they are a ‘climate disaster’.
Tyre Fire, which organised the operation, said it took action against “hundreds” of vehicles because it wanted to make it “impossible” to have one in the city.
SUVs were targeted in 13 “wealthy” areas on Monday night, including seven in London, as well as Brighton, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Sheffield.
off-road
Drivers woke up to find they had at least one tire down and a flyer on the windshield that read “Your Gas Guzzler”.
The SUV has elements of a standard car, but is larger and has off-road capabilities such as high ground clearance. Gasoline and diesel powered models are generally less fuel efficient than cars.
Marion Walker of The Tire Extinguisers said: “The government and politicians have failed to protect us from these large, unnecessary vehicles.
Deflation
“SUVs are a climate catastrophe, they cause air pollution and are a danger to other road users.
“Everyone hates them except the people who drive. Polite calls for climate action, clean air and safer streets have failed. It’s time to act.”
The group describes itself as “leaderless” and encourages people to take action by reading the instructions below How to deflate tires on their website.
