Woman in 60s punched in CID – SPD is looking for suspects

Seattle police are investigating after a woman was pushed down stairs at a light rail stop in the Chinatown International District (CID) on March 2 and believe the suspect may have stabbed a second victim within a short time.

At 11:36 a.m., Sound Transit security called 911 to report a woman who had just been assaulted at the CID light rail station at 5th Avenue South and South Jackson Street. Police arrived at the scene and spoke with a 62-year-old woman treated at the scene by Seattle Fire Department paramedics.

The victim said she was walking up the concrete stairs at the station when a man grabbed her and threw her down the stairs. He followed her down the stairs, kicking and hitting her. She resisted, and eventually the man went back up the stairs and left.

The woman described the suspect as a black male, approximately 30 years old, 6 feet tall, with a thin build, wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, dirty white tennis shoes and a dark gray or green puffy jacket.

He also has a unique cross tattoo on his left cheek.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment for a possible fracture.

Police reviewed security footage of the attack and learned that the suspect took a bus to the intersection of South 12th Avenue and South Jackson Street.

Shortly after, a person was stabbed at a bus stop at that intersection. The descriptions of the stabbing suspect are similar, with both including a tattoo of a cross on his left cheek.
