Thalia Carr, 60, from Oxfordshire, said on the road in Kimbury this morning: “The IPCC said yesterday that no action was taken.
“We need to avoid war, starvation and billions of refugees, which will be an inevitable consequence of climate disruption and multiple extreme weather events… Yet no one is doing anything at the scale and speed we need.”
Yesterday’s IPCC working group report warned that coal must be phased out effectively if the world is to stay within 1.5 degrees Celsius. However, the government’s new fossil fuel infrastructure plan will push temperatures above 1.5 degrees Celsius.
However, at least 40 new fossil fuel projects in the pipeline for the UKa report revealed just days before the country hosts COP26.

The report also mentions that methane emissions must be reduced by a third. While protecting soil and planting trees is a step in the right direction, it’s not enough to mitigate the effects of climate change.
In its first part, published last August, the report warned that human change in climate change would be irreversible — “a business-as-usual approach to climate collapse could have catastrophic effects”.

“The UN Secretary-General said yesterday that the world is on the fast track to deal with climate catastrophe, so why is the UK government planning to license more than 40 new oil fields?
“The reality is that all good things, everything we love, the lives of our children… are at risk. Mass, radical civil resistance has never been more urgent. This is a fight for our lives, We all need to be a part of it. This is our only chance.
