Many pasta sauces use sugar to balance the acidity of the tomatoes. Instead of sugar I use my favorite all-purpose sweetener: Besti Monk Fruit Allulose Blend! Because it measures and tastes like sugar (but has 0 grams of net carbs), it’s perfect for sauces. Best of all, it dissolves easily – unlike most alternatives – so your sauce won’t have a gritty texture.

ingredients you need
This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for ketchup, the role of each ingredient in the recipe, and substitution options. See recipe card below for measurements.
- olive oil – I prefer extra virgin olive oil, but regular olive oil or avocado oil will work too.
- onion – I used white onions, but yellow onions will work too. If you want to cut carbs even more, you can substitute about 1 teaspoon of onion powder, to taste (add other spices).
- garlic – Use fresh garlic for best flavor, or canned garlic For convenience. You can substitute 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, but fresh tastes better.
- crushed tomatoes – These are usually canned or canned. Make sure no sweeteners or other ingredients are added. Some brands list only crushed tomatoes, others have a mix of crushed tomatoes and tomato puree or tomato paste; either of these will work fine, but you do want crushed tomatoes as one of the ingredients.
- Besti Monk Fruit Allulose Blend – This is the closest sugar substitute that will give your sauce a subtly sweet taste without the carbs. Best of all, it dissolves easily so there is no gritty texture.if you have Powdered Besti Conversely, this works fine too.other powder keto sweetener will work, but they usually crystallize when you store them.
- spices – Italian seasoning (it’s a mix of oregano, marjoram, basil, thyme, rosemary, and sage), sea salt, Black pepperand red pepper flakes.
- fresh basil – I prefer it fresh here, but you can use 2 tsp dried basil instead of 2 tbsp fresh if you want.
Variation: Add meat or vegetables!
