We are back with another slow cooker recipe. So convenient, so easy, and always makes for really delicious meals.
And this slow cooker pork is no exception. This recipe is perfect for summer barbecues, potlucks, or simple dinners all year round. The pork in this recipe is spicy and sweet, tender and juicy, perfect as a main course and several side dishes, sandwiches, tacos or burritos, pasta, and more.

- pork: I like to use organic roast pork shoulder or pork chops.
- Meat rub: We are making a homemade spice rub with smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, paprika, sea salt and black pepper.
Homemade BBQ Sauce
You can use store bought ones, but making your own is a breeze!
- diced tomatoes: I like to add a can of organic diced tomatoes for flavor
- ketchup: Adds flavor depth and richness.
- chicken soup: Creates a delicious flavor base for our BBQ sauces.
- garlic: Use freshly crushed garlic for the best flavor.
- Apple Cider Vinegar: The acidity in ACV helps break down the meat for a more tender texture.
- olive oil: Adds warmth and nutty flavor to sauces.
- Raw Honey: Give the BBQ sauce a little sweetness.
- pineapple juice: Add a delicious tangy, fruity sweetness to BBQ sauce.
- Dijon Mustard: Give the sauce a little spice.
- seasoning: We used a mixture of paprika, smoked paprika, sea salt and black pepper.
- Fish Sauce: Added a little umami.
- Hot Sauce: Use more or less to taste!
How to Make Pulled Pork in a Crock Pot
This slow cooker pulled pork recipe only takes 5 minutes to prepare!
- Make the sauce: In a saucepan, combine all the ingredients for the homemade BBQ sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes to thicken.
- To season the meat: Combine all pork seasonings in a bowl. Pat the pork dry, cut into three pieces, and mix with the spices.
- Roast meat: Heat a pan over medium-high heat, add and heat the avocado oil, and fry the meat for 3-4 minutes per side.
- Combine and cook: Place the pork in the slow cooker, pour in the barbecue sauce, and simmer for 8 hours with the lid on.
- Chop and serve: Transfer the cooked meat to a cutting board and let it cool for a few minutes. Use 2 forks to cut the meat into bite-sized pieces.
Does Pork in the Slow Cooker Need Liquid
yes! The pork needs to be cooked with liquid in the slow cooker so it doesn’t burn on the bottom and therefore doesn’t dry out during the long, slow cooking time.
For this recipe, we use homemade BBQ sauce as the liquid, which adds a ton of flavor and moisture.
Can you cook pulled pork in a slow cooker?
In theory, yes.However, it is incredible It’s hard to overcook in a slow cooker. especially If you are using marbling pork.

Meat rub:
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons paprika
- 2 teaspoons Cumin Powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic power
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon chili
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper
Homemade BBQ Sauce (see note):
- 1 15 oz.can organic diced tomatoes
- 1 8 oz.Canned Organic Tomato Sauce
- 1/4 cup Organic Chicken Soup
- 3 garlic cloves, crushed
- 2 tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon raw honey
- 1/2 cup fresh pineapple juice
- 1 tablespoon Organic Dijon Mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne, more to taste
- 2 tablespoons smoked paprika, more delicious
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/2 teaspoon Sea salt, more to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, more to taste
- 1 teaspoon fish sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce, more delicious
- In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine all sauce ingredients and toss to coat. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered, mixing occasionally, for 30 minutes. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- While the sauce is simmering, combine the meat rub ingredients in a small mixing bowl. Pat the meat dry and cut into three medium-sized pieces. Rub the meat generously with the spice mixture, making sure each area is well covered.
- Heat a medium saucepan over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of avocado oil. Once the oil is hot, fry the meat for 3-4 minutes per side, or until browned. Put the meat in the crock pot.
- Once the BBQ sauce is ready, turn it off the heat and let it cool for about 5 minutes. Pour into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Pour BBQ sauce over the meat in the slow cooker, making sure the meat is well covered.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 8 hours.
- Remove the meat and place on a cutting board. Cool for a few minutes. After cooling, use 2 forks to cut the meat into bite-sized pieces, discarding any large pieces of fat.
- Warm it up with your favorite noodles!
