Google Local Ads: 7 Tips to Improve Your ROI

Google LSA lets lawyers, real estate agents and Home service businesses appear in local searches. Here are some small details that can make a big difference to an LSA’s ROI.

1. Find out if you have an MCC and a personal advertising account

always easier to build Account Structure Fix it from the start than later. Knowing if your brand is the best fit for a manager account (MCC) and individual ad account boils down to the following considerations:

  • Do you serve multiple major markets?
  • are you one Franchise?
  • Are you an agent?

It is a best practice to limit LSA profiles to three primary goals per profile. Otherwise, if you serve multiple locations, you’re diluting your budget focus and risking proximity ranking factors. Serving multiple locations can benefit from having multiple Google business profiles, one LSA profile per market.

Essentially, unless you are targeting only one market, you will need multiple profiles.

Setting your LSA profile to MCC will allow you to easily navigate between them without having to log in and out of your account. You’ll also benefit from MCC-level billing, reporting, and shared assets.

As a franchise/agency, this is especially important as you can only share login access with another email via the LSA profile.

2. Target no more than 3 major markets

Each Local Services ad profile should be considered a campaign. Just as you wouldn’t require a campaign to serve more than one key market, it’s not realistic to require a local service ad to target more than three key markets.

As just mentioned, in an ideal structure, each LSA profile would focus on one major market (corresponding to a Google business profile).

However, if you only have one pound and serve multiple locations, Make sure you choose to target locations close to your main lead generation centers (i.e. you are more likely to benefit from proximity ranking factors).

Google Local Ads - Service Territory Selection

Targeting a county or DMA counts as one target. You can exclude zip codes or towns to narrow your focus and bypass competitive auctions.

While there is no official cap on brands in a given market, the average number of suppliers a given geography can support is 35.It’s important to secure your LSA profile quickly and focus your budget on priority markets so you can secure your dominance on the SERPs.

3. Avoid unnecessary objections

The most common reasons for an LSA to go out of service are disapproveand two common disapprovals are images that are flagged or certification expired.

To avoid certificate expiration:

When setting up your profile, you’ll be asked to enter an expiration date for your certification. However, some certifications do not require renewal – or if required, they are not annual renewals. Be sure to set the expiration date far enough in advance so you don’t need to think about 5 to 10 years.

To avoid flagging headshots:

For your avatar, it’s important that your photo is not just your face. The ideal image would cover the elbows. Here’s an example of a headshot that might do the trick:

Here’s an example of a headshot that might fail:

Profile pictures don’t need to have a solid white background or lack personality. The core difference between one acceptable and the other unacceptable is the visibility of the arm.

4. Keep your Google reviews

Remember, reviews on your regular Google Business profile will show up on your LSA profile and affect your ad position, but not the other way around. If you stop advertising, any comments you have from LSA will disappear and you will not be able to reply to comments obtained through the comment link.

It’s also important to know that a local service ad needs an average rating of 3.0 to remain active. If your Google Business Profile is below 3.0, your ads will stop running until your Review Score clears 3.0.

5. Set higher bids and budgets

Brands may be understandably wary of setting aggressive bids and budgets on new marketing channels.Local service ads suffer from under-budgeting and bidding pitfalls due to their reputation Low cost leads.

When setting up your campaign, you can choose to set manual bids for each lead or opt-in automatic bidding. If you choose to automate bidding with a low budget, it’s common for your ad to underdeliver (or not deliver at all).

As a general rule, you usually want to set a budget of 2-3 times your actual planned spend Because Google often struggles to spend its budget. So if your goal is to spend $5,000 per month, you’ll want to set your budget to $15,000.

Google Local Ads - Budget Overview

Although the account’s budget was set at $10,000, Google only spent $3,054.

Additionally, the maximum per bid has been raised to $1,000, So if you’re struggling to gain traction with automated bidding, you may run into competitors setting aggressive manual bids. This may be the reason for targeting tangential markets.

Because you only pay for phone calls or filling out forms that last at least two minutes, your marketing costs will be higher than traditional paid search (This requires you to pay per click). If your lead cost is $50 and your goal is to spend $500 per month, that means you’re aiming for 10 leads per month. Depending on your bandwidth, you may want to get more or fewer leads.

6. Set a realistic time

Conversion rates Because LSA and response time are strongly correlated: the faster you respond to potential customers, the better your chances of winning business.

Local service ads don’t rank response time, but they do learn what kind of users lead to a successful call/form fill.

Make sure your LSA is set to run only when you have a team response. If you can’t support leads 24/7, don’t let your campaigns run 24/7. This will help Google allocate its budget as efficiently as possible.

7. Tag your leads

If a lead turns into a business, mark it as successfully closed and file unsuitable leads. Some lead quality issues may be because of the service you say you’re willing to accept (i.e. say you’ll take a lease but you’re really only selling/buying), but most are because the prospect isn’t right. Archiving a lead communicates it to Google so it can understand where it shouldn’t invest your budget.
