CAPAC members celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

WASHINGTON, DC – May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, celebrating the history, immeasurable contributions and achievements of the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. In honor of the month-long celebration, members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) from Washington state issued the following statement:

Rep. Marilyn Strickland

“I am proud to celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with my colleagues in May. The APA and API communities continue to make significant contributions to the field in South Sound and across the country. This month, we will celebrate our rich history and Diversity, while paying tribute to the APA and API leaders who paved the way for us today. As one of the first Korean-American women elected to Congress in our 230-year history, I am proud to represent and advocate for the APA and API communities By.”

Rep.Pramila Jayapal

“As we mark the beginning of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, let’s take a moment to reflect on and appreciate the amazing contributions Asian Pacific Americans have made to our country. From art to science and everything in between. Everything, we have a vital and indelible impact on the fabric of society. I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished and what’s to come. Happy Asian Pacific American Heritage Month!”

Rep. Adam Smith

“This May, we celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, a time to recognize the diverse histories and cultures of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and their contributions to the fabric of our nation. May was selected as Asian Pacific American People’s Heritage Month, commemorating the arrival of the first known Japanese immigrant to the United States in May 1843 and the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad in May 1869, facilitated by thousands of Chinese workers – a reminder that America is because of us stronger through diversity. I am proud to represent one of the most diverse regions in Washington State, home to a large AAPI community who enrich our region in countless ways.”
