Affiliate marketing has become a widely accepted practice in business: seeking professional advice/advice when choosing a product or service has become the right of way.
As a leading website building company, Ucraft offers a membership program to build long-term relationships with satisfied users and give back to our community, as any partnership requires mutual honesty and dedication. To illustrate the process, we initiated some backstage discussions with our affiliates about their experiences – an affiliate marketing success story.
Steve Benjamins, Founder Website Construction Report, sit down with us to share his experience as a Ucraft member. Read on to learn more about the challenges members overcame, how to gain trust, and more.
1. How did you start your affiliate marketing journey?
My path started in 2012 with building my own website builder. I had a hard time marketing it and quickly realized I didn’t have the expertise or the money to compete with the big website building companies.
So I decided that the industry doesn’t need other website builders. Instead, it needs someone to educate consumers on how to choose a website builder. I launched my website – Site Builder Report and found myself in Affiliate Marketing!
2. What were the major challenges for you and how did you overcome them?
The biggest challenge for me was learning to be patient. Building a content site takes time.
Learning how to create engaging content takes time. It takes time for Google and Youtube to start ranking your content. Building a brand takes time.
3․ What is your method of gaining people’s trust?
Honestly! The internet is full of BS, so people have gotten pretty good at sniffing out BS.
If your “review” is fluffy and full of hyperbole, people will just think you’re selling them something. People will be more likely to trust you if your “reviews” are honest about shortcomings.
And always make money with affiliate links. I noticed that by knowing this ahead of time it didn’t do any deep conversion.
4․ How do you determine the tone of your target audience?
I draw inspiration from other review sites that I find inspiring. For example, The Wirecutter is a review site with clear descriptive language and very little filler content.
5․ How do you choose the best USP for a product? How do you present them?
I try to avoid product marketing sites. Instead, I go straight to the support documentation and try to understand what the product can really do, not just what the company says it can do.
In the software world, it’s not uncommon for a company to say they support a feature, but in reality, they’re just doing the bare minimum!
how? – Show, don’t tell!
Writing about software is not always ideal. It’s almost always better to do it visually.
That’s why my comment is full of videos. When users see USP in action, they can better understand it.
6․ How often do you update your website/landing page to keep your audience engaged?
I update all my reviews, comparisons and roundups once a year. Website builders are constantly evolving their products, and I find annual inspections are a great way to stay up-to-date.
This is just one example of successful affiliate marketing, but there are many more. Our takeaway today: When hard work and good strategy are combined, nothing is impossible!
