How to Optimize Your Website for Voice Search
Now that we know how people typically use voice search, let’s get to work.
Making your website easy to voice search helps people find you – and more importantly, choose you.
How can your business leverage voice technology?
1. Find and use conversational keywords
As you know, short and vague keywords are the enemy of SEO.
In most cases, mid-tail and long-tail keywords are much better: the more specific they are, the more likely they are to bring you customers.
Voice search goes a step further: Even long-tail keywords are not enough.
Instead, you must Use complete phrases and questions Usually used for conversations between real people.
Such as, “What is the airspeed of a swallow on an empty stomach?”
Fortunately, Keyword Finder can pick out such phrases and questions for you very well.

Once in the problem research tool, select all conversation phrases.
Hint: they usually start with who, what, why, where, when, and how.
Good options for voice search keyword research are Google’s autocomplete and “People Also Ask” feature.
To get your research across the finish line, be sure to check out forums and websites frequented by your target audience.
A very good example is Reddit. Find subreddits relevant to your niche and check topic titles – these are the questions your potential customers are asking.
All that’s left is to use them on your website.
2. Build an FAQ section
You’ve often heard that having an FAQ page on your website is great for your SEO, and that’s absolutely true.
Users ask questions and you should have answers ready.
SEO experts recommend creating content that meets user needs, and it’s hard to think of a better example than FAQs.
But the words that matter here are “question” and “answer” – that’s the essence of voice search!
These questions and answers are the driving force behind the conversational language we just talked about.
Using the research you started in Step 1, list the questions on one page of your website – then simply follow them up with answers.
Make them detailed, but not too long; users prefer quick answers, and voice search answers also tend to be shorter.

Chances are, you have a wide variety of visitors who speak more than one language.
If this is the case, you need to prepare content that they can find and use.
When it comes to voice search, the quality of your content translation needs to be very accurate.
You want to make sure that when Siri reads your content, you sound like a trusted, authoritative source.
We recommend having a native speaker translate and proofread your copy and content.
Also, be sure to ask Google’s Guidelines for Administration of Multilingual Websites.
4. Claim your Google My Business profile
About half of voice search users are looking for local business information every day.
Since voice search is so local friendly, making sure your voice results are at the top is key.
What’s the best way to increase your chances in this game?
That would be the top player in local SEO: Google My Business.

Now is your probably least favorite part.
As a rule of thumb, voice search selects top search results for voice queries.
Sometimes the assistant will say, “Here are a few options,” and let you explore the SERPs.
In other words, if you want to be heard in voice search, you have to put your website on the first page of Google. The closer to #1 the better.
Your best bet is to go the extra mile on everything, including backlinks, user experience, local searches, technical issues—you name it.
Be sure to track your progress by watching your ranking growth in the WebCEO Ranking Report.

Don’t miss the day when the smart assistant fetches pages from your website – that’s sure to be a moment to celebrate.
7. Get Featured Snippets for Your Website
When we said earlier that voice search selects the most popular search results, including position 0.
Ranking #1 in organic search is no longer enough. You need to aim higher.
40.7% of voice search results from Featured Snippets.
If you have an FAQ page, you’ve done most of the work. Both Featured Snippets and Voice Search prefer short but concise answers to user questions.
Simple language works best here: backlinks Found that the average Google voice search result is written at the 9th grade level, so stay away from academic language.
8. Using Pattern Markers
According to the same study by Backlinko, Schema seems to have little impact on voice search SEO.
However, other sources still recommend using Schema.
This is because structured data helps search engines understand the purpose of each element on the page and select content relevant to the user’s question.
Also, Google is busy developing a “Speakable” Schema Properties. It’s used to mark up text on the site that you want your assistant to read.
We expect Google to want Schema to play a bigger role in voice search.
The “speakable” property is still in beta, so be sure to keep an eye out for updates and be ready for implementation.
9. Engage with users on social media
Oh yes, social media supports voice search too!
Voice search results often have a lot of likes and shares from Facebook, Twitter, and other social networks.
Make sure there are active pages out there and give them lots of love and care.
The more you interact with your users, the more you will be found through the virtual assistant in the future.
10. Rank your videos in search results
Content-rich videos are better at answering user queries than plain text.
If you have any videos to help your users, they can also be used for voice search.
Google can already isolate the part of the video that is relevant to the user’s request, but you need to first make sure your video ranks well.
For your video to rank high on Google and appear in voice search, you need to:
- Conversational long-tail phrases in the title. They don’t need to be the same as the user’s actual query, so you can be flexible. A tutorial whose title begins with “how to” is a good example.
- Keywords in video descriptions and transcripts.
- Clickable thumbnails.
Track your video’s Google rank with WebCEO Tools’ My Rank report, which also captures video search results.
wrap up
Voice search is no longer the “next term” for SEO. It has emerged that it is a race among marketers to see who can best master it.
As you can see, it boils down to three key principles:
- Research your target audience.
- Watch the evolution of voice search.
- Continue the SEO work on your website.
