Google has launched Interview Warm-Up, a new tool that uses artificial intelligence to help people prepare for job interviews.
As part of the Google Growth and Career Certification Program, it asks common interview questions and transcribes the answers in real time.
Interview Warm-Up, originally designed to help Google Career Certificate learners prepare for job hunting, is now available to everyone.
Using speech-to-text or a keyboard, users can practice answering common interview questions, as well as job-specific questions picked by experts in the field.
The tool then analyzes the answers and suggests improvements.

The interview warm-up consists of three types of questions:
- background – Covers past training and experience
- situation – How you have handled in the past or how you will handle a particular situation in the future
- technical – Covers knowledge and skills, often testing how hypothetical problems are handled
Machine learning analyzes responses and provides insights
In addition to allowing individual comments, Google’s algorithms will use machine learning to identify patterns and generate insights in users’ answers. These include:
- Job-related terms, highlighting words in answers related to a specific field
- The most common phrases, indicating the phrases used three or more times and providing alternatives.
- Talking Points uses Google’s artificial intelligence to discover important points in responses, including skills, experiences, and lessons learned.
“Insights help you spot patterns in your answers,” The FAQ page for the interview warm-up says. “They don’t grade your answers or tell you which part of your answer is right or wrong. Insights include the job-related terms you use, your most common words, and the talking points you cover.”
Google does not save audio or transcripts of interview sessions, although users can manually copy or download transcripts after completion. This feature is currently only available in the US
Because the interview warm-up is designed for Google Career Certificate learners, you may encounter specific questions specific to each certificate. However, the tool is available to everyone and has general issues that apply to many fields.
Google says more than 70,000 people have earned a certificate, and 75% of graduates report a positive career impact within six months of graduation.
