To improve patient experience and health equity, a team is Northwell Health Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital (MEETH) identified opportunities to reduce language as a barrier to care by improving language translation services.
The tedious process of interpretation required clinicians to access landline devices locked behind nurse stations, move them to the pre-/post-operative patient area, and ensure connectivity. Two cell phone devices limit interactions between patients and individual caregivers to audio-only explanations.
MEETH understands that any language translation application can be quickly and cost-effectively added to a hospital’s Equiva powered tablet. These devices have been deployed in 2020 and are primarily used to provide indoor entertainment in 30-bed units without TVs.
