DNV, the marine classification association, has granted ‘Structural Approval’ for the ‘Oboes’ design for the Australian Maritime Alliance (AMA) tender for the Australian Army’s LAND 8710 Phase 1A Coastal Motor Vessel – Medium (LMV-M).
The Oboe is a state-of-the-art amphibious vessel capable of carrying a variety of combat and support vehicles in service of the Australian Army and our allies.
In addition to significantly increasing the carrying capacity of the LCM-8 ships they will replace, the Oboe also provides greater range and spacious accommodation to support long-term independent operations.

The size, load-carrying capacity and structural integrity of the oboe will allow the Australian Defence Force to confidently deploy and operate these vessels in all environmental conditions, providing the Australian Army with an immediate shift in combat capability and inherent design flexibility to meet challenges s future.
Civmec’s world-class production facility in Henderson, Western Australia offers unparalleled shipbuilding capabilities, and its new state-of-the-art ship assembly shop makes it one of the largest in the country.
Serco Defense Managing Director Clint Thomas AM, CSC said that as AMA, Serco and Civmec are working with “best in class” to bring together the strengths of Australia’s defence capabilities to ensure the oboe exceeds Army requirements and operational standards.

“This design represents the Army’s next-generation amphibious capability, and with a first-class line-up from Australia’s best industry, the AMA will deliver that,” Mr Thomas said.
The AMA stands ready to serve the Commonwealth, bringing Australian industry skills and expertise to the forefront.
