Faculty Spotlight: Suzanne Kratter
Suzanne Klatt, adjunct professor in Columbia University’s Sustainability Management Program, will teach corporate sustainability reporting this fall.
Suzanne Klatt started out as an adjunct professor at Columbia University Sustainability Management Plan this summer. Outside of Colombia, she serves as Director of Environmental, Social and Governance (Environmental, Social and Governance) IBM’s plans and strategies. This includes ESG strategy, framework and roadmap, improved disclosure, data collection and reporting, and finally client engagement and thought leadership.
Previously, during her tenure at Nasdaq, she was an integral part of developing its approach to sustainable development and addressing climate change, and was a subject matter expert for the company’s ESG reporting. She participates in cross-functional sustainability committees and working groups. Her previous position was Vice President of Environment and Sustainability at Prudential Financial, Inc. There, her work focused on integrating long-term value creation into the company’s sustainability/ESG strategy. She also leads corporate ESG reporting and strategic policy and advocacy initiatives.
Klatt completed a master’s degree in sustainable management at Columbia University in May 2020. She also holds an MA in French Studies from New York University and a BA with honors from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
What initially motivated you to pursue the field of sustainability?
The field of sustainable development is one that essentially promotes the greater good of the world. I like a career that pursues goals.
What attracted you to the Sustainability Management Program?
I am attracted to the excellent courses and programs.
What courses will you be teaching this fall, and what excites you the most?
I will be teaching a course on corporate sustainability reporting in the fall of 2022. I am excited to learn and teach students who are pursuing careers in the subject.
What changes do you hope to see in the future of sustainability?
I would like to see the climate change agenda in this country depoliticized.
What advice do you have for students pursuing sustainable careers?
My advice to students is to continue to be a moderate radical and be the change you want to see in the world.
