The clerk who led the investigation into the assassination in Haiti received death threats

Two local judges and clerks who were assisting in the investigation into the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse received death threats, one week after Moïse was killed at his home on July 7.

The National Association of Haitian Clerks told French newspapers, Newman, Marcelin Valentin and Waky Philostène, two clerks of the Pétion-Ville Peace Tribunal, received “serious death threats.”

“Call on the Minister of Justice and Public Safety, Mr. Rockefeller Vincent, as a supervisory agency, to pass the necessary instructions to ensure the safety of the above-mentioned clerks so that they can perform their tasks peacefully,” said Martin Aine, president of the National Association of Haitian Clerks.

The paper also stated that the deputy peace judge, Carl Henry Destin of Pétion-Ville Clément Noël, received an “anonymous call” from someone threatening his life.

At 1 am on July 7, Moyes was assassinated by a group of armed invaders. The first lady of Haiti, Martine Moïse, was also injured in the attack and underwent surgery in Miami, Florida on June 10, 2021. She talked about the impact of her husband’s assassination and her plan to advance in his memory.

“This kind of behavior is nameless. To assassinate a president like Jovenel Moïse without giving him a chance to say a few words, you must be a stubborn criminal,” Moïse said. “We know who the president is fighting. They send mercenaries to kill the president and his family at the president’s home to build roads, water, electricity, referendums, and year-end elections to avoid transitioning to the country.”

“I will work harder because the battle he is participating in is not his; he is fighting for us. We must continue. You know that I love you, and I won’t give up,” Moys concluded.

Currently, 26 Colombians are suspected of murdering Mois. The police arrested 18 Colombians and 3 Haitians.

The head of the Haitian police, Léon Charles, said that at least three suspects have been killed and five have not yet been detained by the police. “They are dangerous people,” he said. “I’m talking about commandos, professional commandos.”

Monday, July 12, the President Joe Biden Said that “the Haitian people deserve peace and security.” He also provides support to help correct the situation.

Biden said: “I sent a delegation of high-level experts to assess the situation and determine that the United States can provide our support.”
