What will my child learn in Kindergarten?

*This is a collaborative post.

Kindergarten will be a critical time of year in developing your child’s skills, abilities and unique qualities. It helps your child develop the key skills they need to move on to the next stage of their learning journey and will contribute to the development of many core areas.

when you take your child to kindergarten, they will find that as they grow older, many experiences and learning abilities become second nature to them. Here are some key elements your child will learn in nursery.

Numeracy and literacy

Fundamental to children’s learning will be numeracy, numeracy, thinking clearly about their next decision, and learning to write. Writing, reading, listening and independent thinking will all be core skills your child learns in Nursery, which will develop other skills later on.

Lots of playtime, teamwork, singing and working with teachers will equip your child with mastery of these two key subjects which will be relied upon for many years to come.

develop their personal and emotional skills

Your child will benefit greatly from talking to other children, working together, and building an understanding of thoughts and feelings. They are becoming actively aware of their thought processes and feelings, making them more confident in their abilities and how they feel about certain things. A nursery environment provides the right environment for your child to feel comfortable, engaged and inspired to improve their skills.

practical and motor skills

Your child will be handling many different objects and toys, which will help them understand grip, control and balance. From playing an instrument to tapping on things, drawing on paper, coloring and painting to playing with water, building sandcastles and more – these help your child’s fine and gross motor skills. These are almost always fun and exciting for kids, which is an important part of a child’s development.

The kindergarten experience is full of highs and lows. But they can all help your child learn more about themselves, be at peace with what they know, and how all of these skills will work when they enter prep school or elementary school.
