The Best Easy Oatmeal Recipes

This oatmeal post holds a very special place in my heart! I’ve made countless oatmeal recipes for you guys and each one is special to me. I’m so proud of these recipes because they’re nutritious, easy to make, and there’s something for everyone!

Oatmeal is one of those ingredients that I always have in my pantry because it’s the ultimate superfood ingredient that saves me time and time again. that’s why:

When someone in the family craves cookies – I’ll grab oatmeal. When someone is feeling a bit hungry and needs an energy boost? I will make some oat energy balls. When I know we’re going to be out the door the next morning and won’t have time for breakfast – it’s overnight oats!

There’s nothing oatmeal can’t do, and I’m here to share some of my favorite easy and healthy oatmeal recipes. I can’t wait to see which ones are your favourites!

What are the benefits of eating oatmeal?

First, it’s important to understand exactly what oatmeal is. Oats are a whole grain and in their pure state (which is what most of my recipes call for) are gluten free. So not only is it suitable for those with food sensitivities or allergies, but it’s also a great option when you avoid gluten due to other dietary needs.

Besides being a great gluten-free option, oatmeal has many other benefits health benefits:

  • It can help lower blood sugar. This is especially helpful for people with type 2 diabetes.
  • Eating plenty of oatmeal is a good source of fiber. This can help you feel fuller for longer and make you less likely to overindulge. Plus, they’re a healthy source of carbohydrates (which is why oatmeal is a great breakfast choice!).
  • it may reduce risk childhood asthma. This surprised me too, but it’s a very useful fact when I’m often around young kids who are trying to eat a healthy diet! I love learning these little things about food that I can share with other families.
  • Oats are a great source of nutrition. Oatmeal contains a host of nutrients, including iron, magnesium, and zinc.

Types of Oatmeal

Did you know there are different types of oats? Not all are interchangeable! Therefore, it is always important to check recipes and choose the right kind of oats.

  • Steel Cut Oats: These oats are grits that are not overly processed. It’s important to know about this type of oats that they give more bite, and they don’t work in all recipes.
  • oatmeal: These are the most common type of oats and I use them a lot in my oatmeal recipes. I like them for their versatility, they’re easy to find and they’re affordable. Rolled oats are great for cookies, chocolate bars, granola, overnight oats, and more.Start with these delicious Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bars If you have never baked with oats before.
  • Quick Cooking Oats: Quick-cooking oats are very similar to rolled oats, but when processed, they are rolled out a little thinner. So they cook faster and are softer when you cook them.
  • Instant Oatmeal: It’s the box you’re used to (Apple Cinnamon Quaker Oats, anyone?!).While these pre-sweetened and flavored quick-cook oats are a childhood favorite, I prefer my own from scratch Apple Cinnamon Breakfast Cereal Bowls!
  • Oat Flour: This is one of my favorite baking tips! If I run out of all-purpose flour, or if I want to make a gluten-free recipe, I’ll switch to ground oats. Just blend regular rolled oats in a food processor until you get oat flour. You can then use it like regular flour.i like to be in my Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipes sometimes (a little bird told me that using ground oats is the secret to Mrs. Fields cookies!).

How to Store Oatmeal

It is always important to store oats properly so they stay fresh and free from any contaminants.

Storing Raw Oats

Store raw oats (such as steel oats, rolled oats, or quick-cooking oats) in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. I don’t recommend storing them in the fridge as you don’t want them to be exposed to any extra moisture.

Storing Cooked Oats

Always refer to each recipe, but I recommend storing all cooked oats in the refrigerator. You can also keep some cooked oatmeal recipes like cookies and granola bars in the freezer.
