  • cumin powder – Adds a rich smoky flavor. It balances the sweetness and heat of the other spices.
  • sea salt and black pepper
  • smoked paprika – I haven’t seen smoked paprika in store bought packets, but I always use that because I believe it tastes better. Feel free to use regular sweet paprika if you prefer.
  • dried oregano – If you like these flavors, you can substitute Mexican oregano, dried cilantro, or dried cilantro.
  • garlic powder – Enhances saltiness.
  • onion powder – Imparts an earthy, slightly sweet flavor and adds depth to the mix.
  • chili – The pepper content in this blend is mild overall. If you like a spicier mixture, you can double the amount or add 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes.
Does taco seasoning have salt?

Does taco seasoning have salt?

Yes, taco seasoning does include salt.

Since most store-bought mixes contain salt, and I want it to work as a 1:1 substitute in any recipe, I add salt to this spice mix I make myself. If you want to reduce your sodium intake, you can omit or reduce the amount of salt.

How much taco seasoning do you need per pound of meat?

Use 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning per pound of ground meat, such as ground beef or pork, shredded chicken or shrimp.

Most pre-made packages recommend this, and I developed this homemade taco seasoning recipe to match so you can easily substitute store-bought in any recipe.

storage instructions

My easy taco seasoning recipe makes a pretty big batch because I find it annoying to make it every time I need it. It makes enough for 3 lbs of meat, which is usually three meals in our house. If you have a larger family, or if you want to reduce the frequency of it, feel free to double, triple or even quadruple it.

Store this mixture in an airtight container in a cool, dry place such as spice jar with lid or Small Multipurpose Tank。 It will last for 1-2 years, but best used within a year for best flavor.
