Ingredients and Substitutes
This section explains how to choose the best blue cheese dressing ingredients, what each ingredient does in the recipe, and substitution options. For measurements, see recipe card below.
- mayonnaise – I like to use my own homemade mayonnaise When I have time, but store bought would work too. Greek yogurt can also be substituted, but the flavor will vary.
- sour cream – Gives a rich flavor to dressings. If you choose Greek yogurt above, you can also substitute it for sour cream.
- shredded blue cheese – Of course, you need blue cheese for this blue cheese salad dressing recipe! Sometimes this is called blue cheese in stores, the same French spelling. Crumbs provide texture, as well as rich flavor. You can also use Roquefort, Gorgonzola, Stilton, and Cambazola.
- lemon juice – I used bottled lemon juice For convenience, since you only need a teaspoon. But you can also get juice from freshly squeezed lemons.
- almond milk – Milk will thin the dressing.I use store bought unsweetened almond milk but you can Make Almond Milk At home, or use any milk of your choice (cow’s milk, coconut milk, heavy cream, half and half, etc.). Buttermilk would work too, if you prefer.
- sea salt & Black pepper

Tip: Use a spoon to press blue cheese cubes against the sides of a bowl or jar.
This helps infuse the flavor of the blue cheese into the dressing.

storage instructions
Store homemade blue cheese dressing in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5-7 days.
