Harvey Weinstein tried to delay his extradition from a state prison near Buffalo, New York. He will appear in a California court and face charges of sexual assault.
Weinstein arrives in Los Angeles According to prison records, he was booked in the city center on Tuesday afternoon. The shameless movie tycoon was charged with 11 counts of sexual assault.
The 69-year-old faces four counts of forcible oral sex, four counts of forcible rape, two counts of restrictive assault, and one count of sexual assault by force.
Weinstein’s representative, Juda Engelmayer, issued a statement on his extradition on Tuesday. He tried to fight extradition because of Medical problem.
“We will work hard to get Harvey to get the medical care he needs, of course, so that he can be treated fairly,” she says. “Due process, presumption of innocence and fair trial are still his rights.”
Weinstein Denied the charges against him in Los Angeles.
“Harvey Weinstein has always believed that every physical contact in his life is voluntary,” Engelmeier said. “This hasn’t changed.”
At the same time, a lawyer for Weinstein’s accuser praised his extradition to California after his trial on the West Coast was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“The opportunity to hold Weinstein accountable for his actions in California has survivors including my client Jane Doe 4 speak out,” the plaintiff’s lawyer Elizabeth Fegan said in a statement.
“They should be heard and held Weinstein accountable for his actions. We hope that California’s guilty verdict will ensure that Harvey Weinstein will spend the rest of his life in jail-justice for women around the world.”
Weinstein may be called as early as Wednesday morning. Before being extradited, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for rape in New York.
