2022-2023 Homeschool Curriculum Options – What Katie Did

Choosing to homeschool is a giant leap of faith. This is something we pray about and really wrestle with the pros and cons and ultimately decide what is best for us and our family. You can read about “Why” we homeschool in this article, but today I want to share the courses we have chosen for the upcoming school year. I’ve researched a few different ones (the best ones are most will have a free sample that you can download to get a feel for if it’s right for you and your kids) and these are the ones we landed on, I’m researching, can’t wait to start. 😉

2022-2023 Homeschool Curriculum Options

Now that we have decided to homeschool Sophie (age 6) and Sam (age 8, with non-verbal autism), I know to choose a curriculum that I can use with her and implement some parts of it with Sam (according to need to provide support) will be important!

I’ve been learning Charlotte Mason’s method lately and really aligned with it. So I’d say our homeschooling style is Charlotte Mason style and very “wild and free” at the same time. We read a lot of really good books (fairy tales, fables and rich stories), listen to good music (we will go through some composers including Brahms, Mozart and Beethoven) and our lessons will be short, let’s Being able to spend as much time outdoors as possible for free-thinking play and plenty of nature exploration.

we chose goodness and beauty For language arts, handwriting and math. 1 per level (Sophie will be in the first grade, so I just chose the grade).

I also caught this Learn to build writers without tears book as Sophie’s review, this draw now write book (and this magazine Let it go) I think she’ll like it because she’s a little artist!I also got this shelf Books for her while she was writing in her diary. We’ll alternate between 3 handwritten books, just in case.

For Sam, we’ll write by practicing drawing shapes, lines, and his name with dry-erase markers.I just printed some pages with shapes, and dotted lines to trace, and his name, and put them in These dry erase pocket folders awesome! I would do the same for the other two, a letter to Sophie, and a letter to Ollie, so he can “go to school” with them and not feel left out. 😉

For history, we will learn American Girl History I am excited!

We also found a great nature-based centre for the kids to take in enrichment classes a few days a week. I’m also a member of some local homeschool Facebook groups that promote gatherings, because everyone likes to bring up all the “social” when they hear the word “homeschool” (we’ll talk about that for another day, haha). 😉

We are personally enrolled through a charter school, which is great because we have the resources they provide and a teacher to help us with whatever we need (though I’m still my kid’s teacher). They also provide funding for extracurricular activities/courses/activities/field trips/passes etc. I know that in California you can also file a PSA (Private School Affidavit) stating that you are your own private school and that you will be alone if that’s to your liking. We did it at the end of last year and it was as easy as signing a document! Super easy. So, be sure to check your state’s homeschooling guidelines, they’re all different!

Next look at how we made it all work, the support we used with Sam, and how it all worked (and how we put Ollie (3) into it)! I’ll share the journey along the way (okay and crazy haha)! Mixing life skills and simply spending time together, we’re so excited for the start of this homeschool year!

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!
