Throughout September, classic cars will be on display at the National Mall in Washington, DC, as part of the annual Capital Cars event organized by the Hagerty Drivers Foundation.
From 7:30 am to 10:30 am EST every Saturday of this month, a free exhibition will be open to the public to display the 27th to 30th vehicles added to the National Register of Historic Vehicles.
Each model will be displayed in a luminous glass cabinet. Seeing the car is free.
The one that started the activity was De Lorean DMC-12 in 1981, which was one of the models used in the “Back to the Future” movie. The model is currently owned by Universal Studios and has been completely restored. When not in DC, the vehicle is permanently loaned to the Peterson Museum. It will be on display until September 9.
From September 10th to 16th, the 1970 Dodge Challenger RT S/E became the focus.This car was originally ordered in 1969 by a 27-year-old veteran, Purple Heart winner, and Detroit police Officer Godfrey Quells. Today, this car has only 45,000 miles on its odometer and will be displayed without restoration.

The following week, from September 17 to 23, the 1921 Dusemburg Straight Eight, the first Dusemburg ever sold, will be on display, nicknamed “Dusenburg Castle.” Car enthusiast Samuel Northup Castle ordered the car in 1919 and delivered it in 1921. The chassis of this model is manufactured by Duesenberg, Indianapolis, and the body is manufactured by Bender Body Co. of Cleveland, Ohio according to Castle specifications.
At the end of this month, the 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP400 S from “The Cannonball Run” will find a place in the shopping center. The supercar, which was mainly responsible for introducing the model to the public, has been fully restored.
Other members of the National Register of Historic Vehicles include the Plymouth Voyager in 1984 and the 1968 Ford Mustang, 1964 Chevrolet Impala, 1927 Ford Model T, 1962 Willis CJ-6 and 1940 General Futureliner.
Visitors can find cars on the hardscape National Mall between the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum and the National Gallery.
