In a product recall, the manufacturer usually pays for the replacement, repair, or compensation of the personnel who have the defective product. Recalls can be made voluntarily by manufacturers, or they can be requested by federal agencies such as the Consumer Product Safety Commission or the Food and Drug Administration.

Some product recalls may lead to litigation. However, it is not clear whether any consumers who were allegedly injured have chosen to sue Iviana in this case. The recall may also cost the company millions or billions of dollars. This includes not only the cost of recycling the product, but also any public relations efforts to regain consumer trust after the defective product is released.

So far this year, other brands sold by Costco have issued three recall notices. The recalls are massagers, migraine medications and chainsaws used to trim trees and shrubs. Other brands of this large retailer have recalled products twice and six times in 2020 and 2019 respectively.

In 2018, manufacturers issued 16 product recall notices for products sold by Costco. Not all products have safety hazards. Some are just defective parts or poor performance quality. In all cases, the manufacturer provides a refund or replacement.
