A 35-year-old mother in Bangalore, India, was suspected of playing at a neighbor’s house, beating her 9-year-old daughter with a wood and burning her hand with a candle.
The alleged incident occurred in the third week of June, but when the unidentified girl injured her right hand and was taken to a hospital in Hebar, the police received an alert on Monday. Times of India Report. The doctor notified the authorities after seeing burn marks on the girl’s hand.
A female police officer recorded a statement from the child. She claimed that she was beaten and burned her hand by her mother, who did not name her in the report.
“I played at a neighbor’s house. My mother went out to work. When she came back, she lost control after seeing me at their house. After bringing me home, she beat me with wood and later burned me with a candle Right hand,” the girl told the police, according to the Times of India.
The girl injured the same hand when she fell during the game on Monday.
“My mother took me to the hospital, and the doctor asked me if I had burn marks,” the girl told the police.
After the girl’s statement, the police filed a lawsuit against the mother under Article 324 of the Indian Penal Code (Voluntary use of dangerous substances to cause harm) and relevant parts of the Juvenile Justice Law. India Today Report.
The mother was arrested but was later released on bail.
The woman denied using a candle to burn her daughter’s hand and told the police that she was only beating the girl with a wood.
According to the police, the woman was separated from her husband and lived in RT Nagar with her second daughter. Their eldest daughter and husband are also separated. The police said that in order to survive, the 35-year-old woman worked odd jobs.
The Times of India quoted the police as saying: “The woman claimed that she was frustrated when she saw the child at the neighbor’s house, and the neighbor always spoke ill of her.”
