She GB of Jed Jones Admits that she felt “scared” and “too much pressure” when she lost the first round of taekwondo competition Tokyo Olympics .
As the defending champion of the women-57kg women in London and Rio, Jones has always hoped to become the first British woman ever to win gold medals in three consecutive Olympic Games.
However, she was stunned by Kimia Arizad of the refugee Olympic team in the first round and had no chance to try to save the bronze medal by resurrecting.
“I’m completely broken,” the Welsh athlete said. “This is not the way I plan this day. I am really frustrated with myself. I am not the best today, so I can only congratulate the other girl with my chin.
“This is a difficult lottery. I didn’t know who I was going to fight with until two hours ago, but there were no excuses. I just felt that I put too much pressure on myself, and I really did more than I expected that day. And not having my family there to drive me out of that fear zone did affect me, I was just destroyed and I couldn’t do more for a day.
“Obviously it’s easy to say woula cana shoulda. I didn’t adapt because of the champion adaptation. But for me, I do like the crowd and my family being there, so it’s a struggle for me. I really miss them. There.
