Gavin Newsom and Steve Sisolak tour wildfire damage in Nevada, California

Live Update

According to a press release from Sisolak’s office, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak will visit part of the damage caused by the Tamarack fire on Wednesday and meet with firefighters to understand the incident The latest situation.

The tour will take place in the shared state boundary area south of Lake Tahoe in California and Nevada around 1:30 pm (EDT).

The press release said: “The two states have a long and close history of cooperation in emergency response measures, and the Tamarack Fire is no exception.”

Since the lightning strike on July 4, the Tamarack fire has spread to 106 square miles and burned at least 23 buildings. Some recent cool weather and rainfall have helped those fighting the fire, and the evacuation order for about 2,000 people near the interstate was cancelled earlier this week.

However, fire officials warned that the hot, dry weather that contributed to the rapid spread of the fire could make a comeback.
