The Labor Party claimed that oris Johnson could make the new Covid variant “rampant” in the country by further relaxing restrictions on European and American travelers.
The United Kingdom will allow visitors from the United States and the European Union to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus and enter the country without isolation.
The new regulations will be implemented at 4 a.m. on Monday, and Transport Secretary Grant Shapps expressed his hope that the United States will be more relaxed to allow British people to visit in a “timely” manner.
But after a few encouraging days, the number of Covid-19 cases in the UK dropped from over 50,000 on July 17 to 27,734 at 9am on Wednesday morning, and the Labour Party issued a warning about the impact of changes in travel.
Shadow Transportation Minister Jim McMahon said: “The government’s record at our border has always been reckless and chaotic.
“They are in danger of continuing this practice by changing their policies. It only applies to England. There is no scientific data and standards we need to ensure that we don’t see another variant of Johnson rampant across the country and undermine the efforts of the British government. British public.
“We want to see international travel safe and open.
“The ministers need to be clear about what progress has been made in reaching a reciprocal agreement for Britons traveling abroad-especially with regard to the acceptance of the NHS application as proof of Covid status.
“We also need a clear green and red list and national data to support it.”
The Scottish government also announced that from Monday, the rule changes will apply to vaccinated EU and American tourists.
The Welsh government said it “regrets” the removal of the quarantine requirement in England, but added that making different regulations for Wales would be “ineffective”.
Northern Ireland’s ministers will consider their position on the allegation at the power-sharing executive meeting on Thursday.
Currently, only travelers who have received two doses of the vaccine in the United Kingdom are allowed to enter from an amber country (such as the United States and most of the European Union) without self-isolation for 10 days, with the exception of travelers returning from France.
Professor Christina Page, director of the Department of Clinical Operations Research at University College London, said that she is concerned about the mutations of those who are better at infecting people who have been vaccinated, because those who are fully vaccinated can still infect and spread the virus.
In an interview with The Guardian, she said that if travel between these places and the United Kingdom is not so restricted, then in the United States or Europe, “a worrying new variant may appear” — or “a kind of Local variants will spread everywhere”.
Mr. Shapps welcomed the policy change. He said: “Whether you are a family reunited for the first time since the pandemic began, or a business benefiting from trade growth, this is progress that we can all enjoy.”
When asked if he is confident that the United States and Europe will respond by allowing fully vaccinated travelers from England without isolation, Mr. Shaps said: “I just talked to my American counterparts today, in the United States. , They still have an executive order that can prevent travel to the United States from Britain, Europe, and several other countries.
“So we said,’You can come here, you can visit, you can come to meet friends, if you have been double vaccinated and follow the rules without isolation, you can come as a tourist’.”
“On the other hand, we cannot change this, but we do hope that they will issue an executive order in time, which was actually signed by the previous president and prohibits inbound travel.”
