Sheila Edwards Long
Sheila Edwards Lange, the president of Seattle Central College, was appointed as the president of the University of Washington (UW) Tacoma on July 13.
Her appointment will begin on September 16, awaiting approval by the UW Board of Directors.
At the Seattle Center, Edwards Lange led the college’s efforts to establish partnerships with local industries, governments, and organizations to meet community needs and help bridge the opportunity gap between Seattle and Washington State.
She has also pioneered transformative projects such as the Black Men Initiative, which aims to eliminate systemic obstacles to the academic success of black male students.
Edwards Lange received a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies, as well as a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine.
