Youth climate activist Greta Thunberg criticized the Science Museum, which had previously reported that the Science Museum had signed a “no-speaking clause” with the oil giant Shell to sponsor one of the exhibitions.
The part of the contract between the Museum of London and Shell was published online by the event organization Culture Unstained, which seems to show an agreement that “does not harm the company’s goodwill and reputation.”
Shell sponsors our Future Planet exhibition-featuring carbon capture and storage technology and natural solutions to the climate crisis-which has previously been criticized by environmental activists.

Culture Unstained stated that the agreement between the two parties was “problematic.”
“The official contract with Shell reveals how the museum effectively signed a’gag clause’ to prevent it from making’any declaration’ that might be seen as damaging Shell’s reputation,” it said.
“This clause may be regarded as a standard by the Science Museum Group (SMG), but in this case, it is very problematic.”

On Thursday, the 18-year-old Nobel Peace Prize nominee wrote on Twitter: “The’Science’ museum has just killed satire (and their own reputation).”
Jonathan Newby, Acting Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Science Museum Group, said: “We totally reject unsubstantiated claims that our curators are being hindered in performing their important duties in an expert, independent and thorough manner.”
A Shell spokesperson said: “We fully respect the independence of the museum.”
Ms. Thunberg has previously used social media to respond to world leaders and their attitudes towards the environment.
