The long-awaited (more than ten years) second album of a former German and British political reporter from Berlin is as complicated as you might expect, if a bit nihilistic. Annika Henderson’s spoken English accent is clear and eye-catching, drawing your attention to cleverly twisted text, covered with a consistent, slightly hypnotic drone.
Jules Barkley-X Brakes
This collaboration with Chris Wheeler and Heritage Orchestra, percussion duo Ghost-note, and the four-time world DJ champion Mr Switch, is a two-minute hip-hop tribute, which seamlessly integrates songs from James and others The stylish drummer of the iconic break Brown, Bob James’s Take Me To The Mardi Gras and Unwind Yourself by Marva Whitney. It will make you want to go to an old-school rabbit hole.
Bastille-Twisted beam
It’s hard to imagine this song, which landed at the end of the holiday season, was not precisely processed, and could be played loudly with a huge laser in the field of a group of ecstatic wearers. Of course, this delightful, futuristic digital video shows an exciting new live setting. Reach out to the child, you can touch it.
I was worried that the age of his vocal stage didn’t stop me from being very happy about this incredible roaring new song by 18-year-old Canadian hardcore artist Doflame, AKA Mateo Naranjo, with the smell of cypress. Suicidal Hill and Tangkang. A guaranteed nod, it’s all about talking loudly and doing your things.
Normani & Cardi B — the wild side
After leaving Fifth Harmony, Normani showed a relaxed attitude towards releasing music, releasing one song per year on average. This smooth single (and smooth video) features a short halfway rap by Cardi B, just to really clarify the theme, and does not foretell any style changes, but will make her fans foamy.
Barbara-thought leader
The latest work from a native of New Jersey is a clumsy earworm with a fuzzy guitar and slightly dirty bass. The artist’s first album, Memory Device, who is unlikely to enter the pigeon nest, was created during the blockade and recorded with Al Doyle (LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip) in East London, and will be released on August 27.
“We are going to annoy some people,” Odd Future founding member Syd sings in this 80s ode (waiting for a wonderful princely guitar solo), praising the heavy strokes on the front seats of the car. In the video, she happily gets off with another beautiful girl on the truck while singing with her sweet and hoarse voice, which is sexy, funny and cute.
Yves Tumor-Approaching the World
This surprising six-track EP from American experimental musicians features their most recent single Jackie-the tense guitar reflects a relationship that sounds really scary-and the boisterous Secrecy is Incredly important to The Both And the big, open voice of Crushed Velvet. Disturbing but convincing.
Tom Odell has been in a dark place. “I don’t have a problem with drinking,” he chanted over and over again, while adjusting his speed to the level of a chipmunk. On the numbness, he announced: “So what, I go out every night/sometimes I take drugs,” in the harsh hip-hop beat. The music of this latest album is more experimental than his previous works; fascinating, but also bleak.
Dave-Conflict feat.snowstorm
They have made guest appearances in each other’s videos and even shared the Glastonbury stage, but this is the first time that South London heroes Dave and Stormzy have jumped onto the track together. They certainly don’t feel shy: “Jordan 4s or Jordan 1s, Rolex, more than one,” Dave said in the chorus. His new album will be released on July 23.
Amir and the sniffer-guided by an angel
Sometimes, you just need to enjoy the punk bar rock that cleans up the spider web. This new track from the Australian foursome Amyl and the Sniffer is very noisy, accompanied by unpretentious yelling lyrics. The band’s new album “Comfort to Me” will be released on September 10th and is described as “a Mitsubishi Lancer who is slightly speeding in the school area”.
The first thing: This new Ray BLK song samples Ashanti’s Foolish, and we fully support this decision. The iconic Noughties piano loop is smoothly inserted in the hazy late-night R&B of this track, heralding the long-awaited 26-year-old Londoner’s first album Access Denied to be released on September 17.
GOAT-Underground Queen
GOAT wears a mask before it is cool/mandated by the government. The Swedish rock singers have hidden their identities under some very psychedelic disguise, which is a mystery to some extent, but now they are back with this mind-blowing new single, which is a song A murmur composed of worn-out guitars and cult singing. The new record Headsoup will be released on August 27.
Laura Mvula-Pink Noise
We should have seen this when Laura Mvula started waving the key tar in her performance a few years ago. The Birmingham artist has spent the entire 80s, her third album is Dayglo’s carnival of flexible analog synthesizers, plastic horns and bold funk bass lines. It’s easier said than done to create music that doesn’t sound like imitated. This is an ancient style, but it is also an exciting new beginning.
The big red machine-a later feat.Annais Mitchell
Big Red Machine is a collaborative project between The National’s Aaron Dessner and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, and has been resurrected in the second album (how long do you think it will last, release on August 27). Taylor Swift is the biggest name on the record. In this latest single, Anaïs Mitchell dubbs some very ethnic pianos.
LUMP-we can’t resist
If the sound of Big Red Machine almost exactly matches your expectations for the Dessner-Vernon collaboration, then LUMP—a combination of Laura Marling and Tunng’s Mike Lindsay—is just the opposite. The duo’s new single “We Can’t Resist” is hoarse and weird, with a touch of classic rock and easy-going pop music, but in the end it gives people an intriguing weird feeling.
This week’s Best Beat Award goes to Rico Nasty’s song. We can get enough awkward bass grooves in this American singer and rapper’s latest single-definitely a tune to be played this weekend (if) when the sun arrives. This song will appear in her mixtape Rx, which will be released later this summer.
The Ophelias-Neil Young On High feat.Julian Baker
Fans of intense emotions, heavy violin, and growing indie rock (we know you are there) should only watch this beautiful track from the American quadruple The Ophelias. It features Julien Baker, who recorded her part remotely from her base in Tennessee during the quarantine period and was released on September 24 before the band’s third album, Crocus.
Planet Her is full of sharp, amazing couplets and beautiful melodies, and can easily score the next viral dance challenge on TikTok. Kiss Me More, with SZA as the protagonist, has a relaxed disco feel, comparable to her most popular song, Say So, number one in the United States. Her voice jumped from harsh rap to the ridiculous falsetto of the amazing Ain’t Shit, and reached a higher level in the amazing Payday super pop music.
Tyler, creator-call me if you get lost
The new identity of the Los Angeles artist is Tyler Baudelaire. He is an international jet pilot. He is too busy worrying about the “biscuits in the rolls” and has no time to consider the state of the country. The music—the affectionate flute in Hot Wind Blows, and even the reggae music in Sweet/I Thought You Wanted to Dance—has a global feel, combined with the old-school breakbeats and the frequent shouts of DJ Drama. There are many layers to filter. Taylor’s music is as charming as ever.
Jonny Mitchell — Blue 50
Who else has been listening to Blue this week? The masterpiece celebrates its 50th anniversary On Tuesday, to commemorate this milestone, the demo and alternative version of the EP in the album were released. Highlights include a lyrical adaptation of A Case of You, as well as the addition of some appropriately craving French horn tracks, River.
Wye Oak-Walk with me
The latest product of the American duo Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack is very cute: repetitive guitar sounds side by side with soft electronic flash. According to Wasner, the song is “about surrender-learning to feel calm in the chaotic existence by letting go of everything we can’t control.” Meet them at the first online concert on July 1.
Sweetheart-the same old story (blood orange remix)
Sugababes’ first album One Touch recently turned 20 (don’t worry, you’re not the only one who feels old), and to commemorate this milestone, they have been releasing a mix of this album. The first is MNEK’s redesign of Run For Cover. Now we get this cold reimagining from Blood Orange AKA Dev Hynes.
Sherelle — 160 DOWN A406
Back in the past, we were all allowed to gather indoors to play boogie dances, Sherelle is one of the must-see DJs, playing tracks with unparalleled enthusiasm and extremely fast speed. To keep us going until the club (eventually) reopened, the Londoner released her first official single. It is as lively as you think, and the first EP will arrive on July 6.
King of convenience-peace or love
This is always more important to the Norwegian duo than quiet, soothing harmony. The fourth album of the duo is far away from folk songs. Angel’s energetic plucked guitar and jazz violin dancing on Rocky Trail give it a Bossanova feel. A single fever or even function-stop the press! – Drum machine, and the charming falsetto of the pair.
Yves Tumor’s rock star transformation continues to release this new single, which is the follow-up to their wonderful 2020 album Heaven To A Tortured Mind. This is a fierce and shiny song, with contemplative verses and vigorous chorus. The new music brings news of the tour-catching up with them at Electric Brixton in March next year.
Aldous Harding-old skin
This is for all Aldous Harding fans who missed watching their hero live: this brisk single is a studio version of the track, and New Zealanders will use it to end her recent performance. This is a one-time release, but she also announced that she will come to London in March next year to hold two performances in the Barbican.
