Lord Digby Jones lashed out at the BBC host in a tweet, claiming that she “destroyed” the coverage of the BBC Olympics because she did not pronounce the “g” at the end of the word.
On Friday, the 36-year-old TV broadcaster said in a response on Twitter that she is proud of her accent and the roots of the London working class.
The proud London-born star wrote: “I come from a working-class family in East London, Poplar, and Tower Hamlet. I am proud. I am proud of the girl who has overcome many difficulties, proud of my accent! It is me, yes My journey is my courage.”
She added: “This is a quick choice for any young child who may not have some privilege in life. Never let judgments about your class, accent, or appearance hinder you. Use your history. Write your story. Keep working hard, keep shining, and not change for anyone.
“Tweets like this just give me the energy to move on, see you tomorrow… live BBC baby.”
She called the Lord without hesitation and retweeted the initial tweet.

Lord Digby Jones posted a series of tweets on social media criticizing the TV star.
He wrote: “Enough! I can’t stand it anymore! Alex Scott’s outstanding performance in the BBC Olympic team ruined her because she was obviously unable to pronounce at the end of the word “G”. Participants do not participate, Alex, participate in fencin, rowin, boxin, kayaking, weightlifting and swimming competitions.”
He added: “For God’s sake, she is very hot after the Secretary of the Interior Beth Rigby! Can anyone not give lectures to these people? I’m worried that it might be imitated by young people. Stupid question caused by “neighbors”; representing English language…help!”
Fans unswervingly supported the BBC host and praised her speech skills.
In a sea of comments, someone wrote: “You are amazing! You did a great job. Ignore the trolls.”
Others added: “Never apologize for being from London. Never apologize for sounding like most Gooners. You are right to be proud. You used to be a great football player, now you are a great host Continue to be you x.”
“Alex—you did a good job. I think we all welcome Digby’s permanent silence, regardless of his accent.”
