On Wednesday, Kathy Griffin spoke frankly about her previous struggle with drug addiction, as she shared the latest status of her lung cancer surgery.
The 60-year-old comedian revealed on Monday that she was diagnosed with lung cancer while preparing to undergo surgery to remove the affected area.
Xingxing returned to her Twitter The account posted an update to discuss how stopping the painkiller reminded her of her previous narcotics problem.
“To be honest, this cancer operation was a bit more than I expected,” she wrote. “Tonight will be my first night without any narcotic painkillers. Hello Tylenol, my best new friend!”
Recalling a dark time in her life last year, Griffin continued: “The last time I was hospitalized was in June 2020, when I tried to end my life and overdose of prescription drugs.
“For more than a year, I was clean and non-toxic. I now know that I can do this and anything I want to do without those devil pills. Do you know? I am more afraid of drugs and addiction than I am afraid of cancer. It’s more terrifying. So, I think I will do it.”
When her diagnosis was announced earlier this week, Griffin wrote on Twitter: “I have to tell you something. I have cancer. I am about to undergo surgery to remove half of my left lung. Yes, I have Lung cancer, even if I never smoke!”
“The doctors are very optimistic because it is the first stage and is contained in my left lung,” she continued. “I hope that there will be no chemotherapy or radiotherapy after this, and my breathing function should be normal. I should run around as usual in a month or less.
“Four years have passed and I have been trying to get back to work to make you laugh and make you happy, but I will be fine. Of course, I have been fully vaccinated against Covid. The consequences of not being vaccinated will be even more serious. More serious. Please keep an eye on your physical examination in time. This will save your life.”
On Tuesday, she thanked the blessers for their support and also shared a photo of her sober keychain.
“Wow! I am very grateful for all the love you have given me,” Griffin wrote. “My cancer surgery went well yesterday. Phew. I am very nervous about opening my suicidal thoughts and my prescription drug addiction on @Nightline. This keychain means the whole world to me. Day by day.”
Griffin discussed her diagnosis in more depth in an interview with Juju Chang ABC information’ Night line, Broadcast on Monday night.
The star also talked about her drug addiction and suicidal thoughts, and she admitted that she was “still a little shocked” after receiving the news in recent weeks.
She said: “Really just a few days ago-like, I think two weeks ago-I was diagnosed with cancer. As a friend of mine said,’How many nuts can you accept?’ My nuts are very strong. , But this is a challenge.
“I must be shocked. I’m still a bit shocked-not denying, but every day I turn to like, no one next to me and say,’Can you believe this ***? Is it? This ab**** is still what?'”
