During the coverage of the Olympics, Rossiya 1 channel broadcasted many offensive slanders against Mr. Daley.
In several talk shows on the channel, they used words such as “hate” and “pervert” to negatively evaluate LBGT athletes.
“History shows that everything in society is determined by the experiences of heterosexuals, whites, and men.
“If we can come together and use different perspectives, the world will become a better place.”
“There are 10 countries participating in these Olympics, where LGBT will be sentenced to death,” he said.
“I am very fortunate to be able to represent the GB team, to stand on the diving board like myself, to have a husband and son, without worrying about any consequences.
“There are many people in the world who have grown up under unfortunate circumstances.”
He added that he hopes that seeing LGBTQ+ athletes will help people feel that they are “not so lonely, they are valued and they can achieve something”.
“When I was growing up, I always knew that I was different. I always heard people say bad things,” he said.
“You never feel like you can say anything. You swallow yourself, and you feel like you will never become anyone.
“It takes a lot of time to stand up and speak publicly. For people, this can be very daunting and scary, especially in sports that may not be accepted by the fan base.
“I didn’t realize that living like me would have an impact on people all over the world. I am very proud of it.”
A spokesperson for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) told the BBC that they are contacting the Russian broadcasting company to express their concerns.
