IoT News-AT&T and Kigen bring SIM flexibility to cellular IoT devices

AT&T and Kigen Efforts are being made to simplify manufacturing by improving access to the integrated SIM supply chain.

  • AT&T integrates with Kigen to provide enterprises with flexibility and security when sourcing from chipsets, modules, and contract manufacturers.
  • Kigen’s industry-leading SIM operating system, data generation and key management services will support seamless access to AT&T’s network through LTE, LTE-M and NB-IoT technologies.
  • Integrating SIM in the early stages of manufacturing will merge SIM and chip procurement, allowing high-volume manufacturers to optimize production and help new entrants adopt cellular IoT.

AT&T and Kigen are collaborating to help customers simplify their supply chains and shorten time to market for companies that want to leverage SIM, embedded SIM (eSIM), and integrated SIM (iSIM) secure connections deep in their IoT devices.

Kigen’s SIM operating system, data generation and key management services will enable AT&T to provide a wider range of options for integrated SIM solutions. By purchasing their AT&T SIM at the stage of the equipment manufacturing process that best suits their customers, manufacturers will enjoy greater flexibility. This may be at contract manufacturing, module supply points, or even at the chipset level, through the use of Integrated SIM card And the chip and SIM card are combined into one component.

Reducing complexity and speeding time to market will attract new customers who are beginning to transform cellular IoT, or those who are accelerating the adoption of securely connected products and bringing them to market faster by simplifying the chipset and SIM evaluation process.

Prior to this, device manufacturers had to purchase multiple SIM SKUs for each end customer or market, which complicated global product launches. Access to the new SIM cache compatible with cellular chipsets and security IC vendors can provide additional flexibility to optimize the supply chain. This simplified approach also allows suppliers, original equipment manufacturers, and licensees to determine the ideal SIM solution early in the design process, thereby simplifying the manufacturing process, which means that equipment assets can be expanded more quickly after deployment.

Kigen’s SIM operating system, data generation and key management services will support seamless access to AT&T’s network through LTE, LTE-M and NB-IoT technologies. Simple integration makes it easier for new entrants and established players to adopt the cellular Internet of Things in their devices faster, while providing them with future-proof guarantees through 5G readiness.

“By working with Kigen, we can help device manufacturers simplify the development and manufacturing of their IoT devices,” Said William Stovall, AT&T’s Vice President of Mobile, Internet of Things and 5G. “This cooperation will also enable AT&T customers to bring more innovative and secure features to market faster.”

“Scaling is both the most important opportunity and obstacle for cellular IoT. Removing the complexity of putting security at the core of IoT devices so that companies can focus on accelerating their products is key,” Said Vincent Korstanje, CEO of Kigen.

“Kigen’s cross-ecosystem solution for all types of SIMs combined with AT&T’s connectivity simplifies how companies choose the right type of security and adjust it according to their manufacturing needs; providing a scalable and trusted Internet of Things.”
